New Wheels! & a great weekend!
What a fantastic weekend!
Friday evening saw me travel down to vist my girl, in Ngatea, 90km out of Auckland. I arrived right on time to a full home cooked meal including dessert! Saturday i woke up late, and wandered over for a complimentary breakfast at her parents cafe. After a several coffees, i took off further south to pick up my SP23 rims. After picking up the rims, i met up with a friend of mine, who's building a track-day mx5. He's a good lad to follow, given his extensive known of NZ back rounds. So i spent an amazing hour chasing down his white mx5, along some amazing back country roads. Apart from the brake pedal getting slightly softer the brakes held up really well. I was quite surprised! I'm sure the scenery was amazing too... Sunday was the Auckland Domain hill climb! Its a central city hill climb, up a windy tree lined road, that weaves up towards the Auckland Museum. I managed to score a couple of rides in a friends starlet rally car. The sheer vairety of cars on display was awesome. Lotus Exeges, Peugeot 106, 205, 306, an M-coupe bmw race cars, open wheelers, alfa classics, an xj12!, porsches, MGS, everything! Then to finally cap it all off, i managed to find a tyre shop open late on a sunday afternoon. So finally i have some nice rims on my mazda. How am i? Just wonderful. |

Looks good! I've always liked the BJI Sport20 front bar.
But heightwise it really does look like a 4WD

No it's not - it's an AWD.
And good to hear! In the meantime, you just need fat friends.

Well i had, my four old rims and tyres, plus the four old tyres from the SP23 rims! Mind you, nothing lowers your car like a pallet of beer...
The BG brakes didn't cope very well with that wee incident tho. |

using a hose to wash his car ... it feels like years since I've seen that. Definately a nice car, will look tops when she sits a bit lower.

I think your car looks great.
Just ignore the height jibes, the pallet of beer would do a great job of manually lowering your car. We did that to my Astina here in Canberra, how funny! Anyway, thanks for sharing good news, always nice to read that somewhere in the AGT family, someone is having a great day!! Cheers |

The question is, how much do i lower it by? Tend to do drive long distance once a week, so hard riding cars suck. I need to figure out what springs are going to give the best ride. Second question, is wether the struts are the same lenght as the SP20.

Not sure about the struts, but lowering about 25-30 (about 1 inch) is the norm and keeps it quite usable (without going crazy). Thats how far mine is lowered and it's not very often that I scrape the front lip. I'd suggest looking at eibach for springs. Struts I cannot guess as I think the rears would be quite different to us FWD people.
Your struts and wheel size will make more difference to the ride than just the lowered springs. Even lowered 1 inch cars can have a better than original ride when decent aftermarket struts are installed. - Not always tho
