Gearbox! (First NA BJ gearbox?) help me out!

ok so finally i've actually pulled together some effort and put the new CV joints in my car... YAY (thanks a million for your help greg!)

bad news: - i think my gearbox is dead... the CV clicking has stopped (so probably needed to be done) - i now have noises like grinding a coming from the box - also noted that the short axle has a little movement in it, but not enough to give the car momentum

reverse engages, moves the car then grinds, gears 1,2,3,4,5 are ****ED.... maybe diff???

is it worth changing the diff? or just do a box?

and finally.... i have the dreaded F25MR box..... would it even be a worthwhile consideration to get a G15MR?? (as in the 1.8 and 1.0 BJ)

I think mine is an F25MR too. I've not seen my gearbox dissmantled, but I'm pretty sure the diff is not isolated from all the other gears. So if something goes crunchy, the rest would follow along shortly thereafter too.

I've considered getting the G15MR before, but these are my concerns:
Clutch different (KNOWN!)
Flywheel different (KNOWN!)
Crank spline different (unknown)
Bellhouse pattern different (unknown)
Gearbox engine mount carrier (KNOWN!)
Clutch cable carrier (KNOWN!)
driveshafts spline different (unknown)
driveshafts length different (unknown)
Wheel bearing/hub assembly interchangeable (unknown)
Brake calipers/hub carrier interchangeable (unknown)

Quite a list, and this is what's kept me from ever considering it... Drain and catch your transmission fluid, inspect the charf on the drain plug for bad things, and make a call. But I say just get an entire wrecked F25MR cuz. Let us know if you need help with all that, as it's a bit of a hike from down here.

Gav.

Definately on the wheel side of the pinion gear... (if that makes sense)... In gear the speedo works, so the gearsets themselves are still alright, i'd say diff or carrier...

If the ratios are the same between the BA and BJ, i've got a couple of good diffs for the F box. But they're probably not as i know BG and BA are different.

Well the G series Diffs between the BAs and BJs are identical so I assume the same would hold true with the F series
