Help Needed from the SA AGT family
Hiya guys n gals,
Just a quick note to ask for some help. I have to fly into Adelaide on Thursday 18th of October and I have a few things I need to get done to my father's car before driving it back to Canberra. (for those that don't know, my father died & I have been having a difficult time coping with the grief) It will be filled with things I want to keep to remind me of my father, photo albums and memorabilia etc. It's been a difficult time to try and determine what to keep and what not to keep. I feel like I should keep everything but it's just impossible. I want to get the car serviced so if anyone can recommend a good mechanic that isn't going to charge the earth. I would like the brakes checked out for me too while he's at it. I also need new tyres, 2 are bald and 2 are almost bald. Basically, this car is unfamiliar to me and I don't know it's history. I don't want to be caught out on the side of the road broken down if i can help it so it's more getting the obvious things checked out. I'm hoping to get the car done on Friday 19th October or Monday 22nd October. I'm staying at West Beach so somewhere not too far away would be great. Aaron flies in on Tuesday 23rd October late in the evening and we are driving out of Adelaide on Thursday 25th October. Doesn't leave a lot of time for Aaron to do some of the bits n pieces to make the trip bearable ie/ replacement of the stereo that still has a tape deck! We aren't paying for the stereo but we're hoping the stock speakers will be alright until we get a chance to have a thorough look at the entire car. When we're back in Canberra, we may well strip the car down - OverHaulin style. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, Kitty |

Whaddup !
Where abouts are you picking the car up from? Staying? Type of car? I go to a small local mechanic that my car has been to for the last 4-5 years and its been running perfectly for a long time. I wouldn't go so far as to recommend him yet, I've only had 1 minor service (Cost me $94.00 and had the alternator belt replaced.) but if your car is near Somerton Park/Glenelg area, it might be worth a look. Lemme know... Good luck, anyways. -Tom |

Hi Kitty. Been through it, more 'an once so only advice i'll give is, keep all the photos, throw away all the clothes, as for the rest, common sense will prevail. KEEP ALL THE PHOTOS. You'll find afore too long they'll be priceless to you.

Could you give them a bell for me and see if they can fit in a 4 cyl toyota on Friday 19th Oct or Monday 22nd October? I want a full service and safety check, paying particular attention to the brakes. I would really appreciate it very VERY much. Cinncinatus: Great advice. We've pretty much done the hard/large stuff. Emptying the place he lived in was pretty much done on our last trip but there is a ton of paperwork. The photo albums are being kept, and I'm loaning them out to other family members for them to copy/scan as well. Sharing the photo's are a good way to ensure they're never lost. My grandmother is in Ridgehaven, she can't get around much anymore, so I want to spend as much time with her as possible. My godmother is in Athelstone, and she is battling cancer as well. We have such a lot in common, it's sad that family and loved ones would have health issues in common... Thanks for all advice though, I really do appreciate it very much. Cheers, Kitty |

Hey,
yeah I'd be more than happy to. West Beach is a little way from Somerton Park, 10-15mins maybe? but if you don't mind the drive I'm more than happy to book it in for you. Let me know. I'm sure he could fit you in though. Will call sometime soon. Cheers. |

Hi Tom,
sounds great to me. I haven't lived in Adelaide for a looooooong time & I relied on my Dad to organise car stuff. If you could find out when I should drop it in to him, and the address of the place, I'll get right on it. Thanks Tom, it helps to have some direction to go in. Send me a PM with the details, or alternatively email me on kks at ausmicro.com Thanks again, Kitty |

I've taken down the time details etc. and left myself a reminder to ring on Monday morning. I'm fairly confident that there will be no problems with getting booked on those dates.
I neglected to mention, by the way, that I'm very sorry to hear about the passing of your father. I hope the trip, assuming the funeral is being conducted during that time, can bring some closure for you and begin the healing process. Glad I can assist in making things easier by making a few phone calls for you. I will let you know of any developments. |

Thanks Tom.
It warms my heart to see the support of this fantastic community of car enthusiasts. Whenever a member has troubles, AGT is there to help in any way they can. Whether it be help like this, or just putting a smile on your face. I hope that AGT always stays like this, one big happy family. Tom, would love to meet up with you and any of the AGT members in SA. Perhaps we can have a get together? I already met sam-323 who knows my god-brother Matt! I'm arriving on Thursday, and Aaron arrives the following Tuesday evening. Perhaps an impromptu meet up for coffee and cake on Tuesday evening? Oh, and please don't laugh too hard at my 'new' car, it's not my usual style of ride LOL! Don't tell anyone here what it is either, I want the pleasure of seeing the faces when they realise that granny car that just pulled up is "Driving Miss Kitty" LOL Looking forward to coming to Adelaide and having some positive experiences to offset the sorrow of my father's death. Thankyou to everyone, thankyou to Tom, thankyou to AGT - you're the best! |

Glad I can help out, in any small way!
Yeah, I wouldn't mind having a little get together! We don't have enough of them down here in SA with AGT. Miki will come along no doubt as well. Any ideas of time/place? |

So why not a meet up on Tuesday evening?
Somewhere that has a decent cuppa (Aaron wouldn't have had dinner) so a decent/cheap meal as well. Make it around 7.30-8pm to allow for lost luggage etc. Should I put a non-cruise meet n greet post up? |

I say the bay, town is too much hassle and its too far for them. If they are staying at west beach then glenelg is within walking distance. I suggest get some food, play some pool etc. That kinda set up. SInce we;re not cruising then I suggest the bay.
If the weather is nice, its the perfect place to be. IMO

The bay?
Is that Glenelg? Aaron and I will be staying at the Seawall Apartments in Glenelg for that Tuesday night. Sounds awesome. I'll try to put a post up about it before I forget again |
