CHanging Fuel Filters

Hey all.
Who has changed their filter need to know how to de-pressurise the
fuel line. GTX manual says to remove the pump connector from under
the seat but ours doesn't have a connector outside the metal shield
is it below ???

only one way to find out mate

plus cant really take the gtx manual as gospel, it has a different fueling system. put the general idea is prob the same.

Start the car.
Disconnect fuel pump
Wait till car stalls
No more fuel!

Some good advice would be to wear safety glasses when dealing with liquids under preasure as they are cheap and effective, just not a good fashion statement

from workshop manual vol1 for BA astinas :
Quote:
Release the Fuel pressure before disconnecting a fuel line :
- Remove the rear seat cushion
- Disconnect the fuel pump connector
- Start the engine
- After the ignition stalls, turn the ignition to OFF
-Connect fuel pump connector and install rear seat cusion
it also says to wrap a rag around fuel lines when disconnecting, to prevent leakage. And to disconnect the negative battery terminal when working on fuel lines.

What a c#@t of a thing. changed mine before. i used 2 clamps to stop the fuel.
when takin the filter out had to block one side of the fuel filter so the fuel didnt
leak.

Even easier than disconnecting the fuel pump would be to start the car then just pull out the fuel pump relay from under the bonnett. No removing trim to get to a fuel pump. Then easy as. Replace, Let it prime and your off in no time...
Good luck

Ta all
I had decided to remove the fuse as lifted up the seat and there
is no easy plug and to hell with undoing all the bolts.

Regards

Mal

The fuel filter isnt under the seat man... the fuel pump is.. The filter is behind the block on the firewall. As mentioned before, the general idea is that you run the car, stop the pump from doin g its job and then eventually te car will stall and the lines are dry as. How you stop the pump doesnt really matter.

As for not doing anything, id prefer not to have fuel spu all over my workspace if the lines are under high pressure and full of fuel :0
