Wassup ya'll... I have a question to all Mazda owners, has anybody used and installed Megasquirt version I, II or III in their FP-DE or FS-DE vehicle successfully? Can anyone help me out on this one... Cheers!!!

no and i would advise against it for a street registered car as it opens up a can of worms for insurance and road-worthiness legislation there are others on these forums that know all the facts for your state but what i do know is that all emissions have to comply to factory specs or something like that
that's all the help i can give hope it gives you a starting point for research |

As far as legal/insurance goes, it depends on the state. NSW isn't too bad. Tuck the EMS up under the dash and make everything look normal, run a decent tune and no one will be any wiser. Also worth giving your insurance company an anonymous call (not of your mobile/home) and asking whether its a legal mod. I know Just Car allows it, doubt many normal ones would.
No one's used a Megasquirt to my knowledge, Gav (Chicaboo) might know more. They're not very common in general.

Plenty of people have successfully used Megasquirt in the States
I see you are already on Mazdas247. Have a look around that site, I'm surre there is a Sticky somewhere on there that deals with MS on the Protege

Alot of people use MSII, you need to have it custom built or modifed to suit as we need an extra coil controller or something. Theres a few other things to but a few people ditch them in favour of something else due to the complexity
Theres a really good sticky on it on Mazdas247

G’day fellas, appreciate the help and information on this product. I can’t believe it’s too much work with MS-I, II or III to have in your car and the insurance people and road-worthiness, that’s too much worms for one can. Can’t have that!
Especially in NSW it’s one of those “States” that will cost you both of your arms and legs to have things done on your car. Everyone just try to rip you off big-time. So if I may ask what “piggyback or standalone” ECU you fellas use on your cars, where to get hold of one and what’s the cost? Cheers guys!!! |

Emissions laws are what your car needs to pass so you don't get torn a new one. It depends on the state how strictly they're enforced. It has 0% to do with the carbon tax.

300mls of acetone in the fuel tank. This apparently helps. There are a few sites about a little acetone in the tank improving fuel consumption and a few people in the U.S. have also said how it also made their emissions improve and emissions tests in NSW are free. Sorry guys don't mean to be an asswipe but i was just asking bout an aftermarket ecu not emision laws and thank you for the help!... I love you guys LOL!!!!

Afaik aftermarket ecu = emissions test = not free
In fact quite expensive, where'd you get free from? EDIT: well bugger me... There's a place in Sydney that does emissions testing for free Guess I'll shut up

How do you make your MS 2 work with the stock Tach and manage the AC idle?
