That MX-5 has the same colours/similar concept I used on a Pug 206 shell I made a few years back. Except I had a bit of a sunburst orange effect on the lower part of the front and rear bumpers. Great colours for visibility too! I have to thank Repsol Honda for the inspiration though...
I think Racing Hart make my favourite wheels, the price is outrageous though!

I think this car is the inspiration behind that MX5
Here's hoping it has a quad rotor in it
I'm not a bit fan of the new mx5 (yet?), but I must admit that one looks hot!
That black BG Astina in the same post looks hot as well.....in fact just about everything here looks hot hot! Gotta love Mazda styling during that era (I'm not so sure on some of their current models...)

That Black BG is the original Super Touring car from the Early 90's British Touring Car Championship. It was later (a few seasons) replaced in the same championship by the Xedos6 (The Eunos) that is ealier on in this thread (the one that is primarily white, and has "Super Touring" across the top of the windscreen).

Basically these astinas & eunoses (??? is that the plural of eunos??? or is it eunoii??) were the fore-runners to the BJ Mazdaspeed proteges that ran (or still are run by privateer teams) the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) touring car challenge. Some of these 323s have since been replaced by the Mazda 6's, such as the 2 earlier on in the thread (incl. the one suitably destroying itself). It appears that these are a semi- factory sponsored project, but they are run by a separate team.

And yes, that MX-5's paint job is based around what i'd say is mazda's best race car of all time, the Le Mans winning 787B. Need I point out, the only rotary (in fact alternate engined) car, and the only japanese manufacturer to win at La Sarthe. 1991: What a win, what a car!!! Both nissan and toyota have tried, but only mazda have done it!

Edit: I forgot to add that Mazda are back in sportscar racing too!! there is a mazda rotary powering a Courage C-65 LMP 2 in the American Le Mans Series. I'll put in a link to a picture of it, if the link doesnt work, just copy the address to your browser's address window/box. Note that the livery on the new Le Mans car, whilst blue & yellow instead of green & orange, uses that same basic design at the 1991 winning car did!!!

heres the link:

Thanks Mitch, that was a very informative post. Also thanks to James for the piccies of the 787B. I had no idea Mazda had their own LM car. Now I know how to paint my next model car!

Not just their own LM car - with that car Mazda became the first Japanese marque to win the Le Mans 24 hour. I must confess I'm not usually much of a fan of rotors, but....4 of them, in one vehicle??...That's gotta be good.
I still reakon that black BG and the Castrol BA Astina's look better, though 8)

As far a MX-6's go, theres alway the PAC Performance car:

http://www.dragtimes.com/images/4967-1994-Mazda-MX6.jpg

Mazda's original LeMans program started around 1983, with the launch of the 717. from then on, new car were produced in the search of glory. the naming of the vehicles went like this: 717, 727, 737, 747, 757... and so on. in 1990 the 787 was produced, and the car was updated the fowwloing year quite dramatically (things such as an extended wheelbase) to create the 787B which won in 1991. Mazda designed a car to follow up on the 787B's success, the RX-792P, but i'm not sure if this was ever raced. if it was, it didnt have any major success.

I thought of making a strut brace like that myself, but bolted to the strut mount and with the horizontal part as an integral part.

I just bought a Whiteline one in the end
