sp20 speaker issue

Hi all,

I noticed the other day when my girlfriend picked me up from work that the music was better in the passenger side then the drivers side. I found that the parcel shelf speaker which are some after market ones and the passenger door ones are the only ones that work. The ones in the rear door and drivers door don't.

I asked my friend with his sp20 what his sound system is like and he told me that only one of his work and the rest sometimes do in hot weather :/.

My car has a stock deck and apparently my girlfriends drunk friend had the volume on max the whole way home from a club one night :/.

Are the speakers blown and is this common or just dodgey wiring?

I also get the worst radio reception and hence have to listen to my iPod a fair bit. The aerial of fully up as well. Anyone else with this issue?

Thanks,

Jeremy

If it's stock they don't have an amp, do they?

Just check the speakers. Takes a couple of mins to get the door cards off. I'd say the speakers are blown..

Also, if you've got a sedan there's no speakers in the rear doors- only in the front and in the parcel shelf.

Wouldn't surprise me if the speakers are blown; He did have the volume maxed out and as a result the speakers have most probably been over driven.

Rhys - There is a small MOSFET amp in the head deck, that delivers enough power to the speakers. Thats why on some units you see '50x4w', or '25x4w' written on them etc etc. The stock head deck isn't designed to run heaps of power (max. volume (for long periods of time) for example), so a blown amp could be a possibility, too. Pretty sure the stock unit only delivers 8w per channel? Definitely not enough...

if there's no amp, what are you listening to?
of course there is one... it's internal to the head unit!

If the amp had blown I would have thought all of them would have stopped :/.

I wish JDM323. Balance is all set on the car and when I play with it in traffic you can really tell the back ones work and only the passenger door works when you move the balance around.

I am pretty sure the car has 6 :/. It used to have music and vibration out the back doors and most I read and on red book say 6 for the sedan. Will have a look now though as I have a brake light which keeps blowing in the rear left and now it is working again but the tail light isn't :/.

Heading bush (5hrs north and inland WA) Friday night so probs should have the tail lights working right to be safe. The speakers are probs going to annoy me but anyway for the trip.

Well.Just learnt something. The people who have 6 speakers have obviously got after market ones. The back doors holes for the speakers are just full of foam. Why have the hole and everything if you aren't going to put them in there?

Also the clip for the door handle on the drivers door broke. Is that easy to get? Hopefully the front door speakers I took out of the Track Rx7 will fit for the weekend. Can't remember if they are 5x7 or 6x9 :/. Would be handy if they are all the same to do me until I just go get some after market ones for the front cos who nows how much life is in the passenger side

Why have two different doors for half the cost again, when you only have to outlay the cost for one to be shared by both?

I had something similar last night happen. Factory headunit was driving and sound was coming from left only so i checked balance then bashed the face of headunit and wallah! Sound came back to the right side..... I think the solid mounts and vibration from car upset the head unit as i have noticed cds also skip on cold idle

The first thing i did was install an aftermarket head deck and speakers.
How you can stand the stock one is beyond me :/ ( but i suppose i havent used or bought a CD in years so i need my AUX )

took me and dad a whole of about 40 mins to do the whole thing.
