Post How to fix Astina loose gear lever - Plus 626, GLC, MX3, MX6, Protege 5

I'll edit this over the next few days as a "how to" guide with photos.

After recently purchasing a MINT (99xxx) '96 Astina Hatchy I was confronted by the worst wobbly shift lever ever & I've seen quite a few over the years !

After a bit of googling I came across the fact that the original ones are soft & crap (from Mazda), the Ford ones a bit better but the creme' de la creme' are from KIA of all places at only $7.40 for the set of 6

A simple fix at 15 minutes (roughly) to just do the 4 lower arm bushes & a teensy bit longer to do the 2 front pivot fork bushes.

KIA part: KKY01 46062 for the bushes $7.40 for 6
MB00146133 - BOLT - None in Aus = M10 x 60mm bolt @Hardware store
K999400800 - NUT FLANGE - As above but in stock

The original 2010 thread can be found on here but I'll do a new one with better photos / details etc

Step 1: Get car up on ramps

Step 2: Handbrake on & chock rear wheels

Step 3: Remove rear 12mm nut & spring washer & bolt

Step 4: Remove front 12mm flange nut & bolt

Step 5: Wiggle shifter control arm tube to rear of car & remove

Step 6: Clean out bushing tubes & install 4 bushes (just push them in)

Step 7: Grind off the "thin" riveted flange end on right front of tube & punch it out

Step 8: Clean out bushing tube & push in 2 bushes

Step 9: Install the greased bolt into this joint & tighten, with the bolt HEAD on the passenger side

Step 10: Slide completed tube back in

Step 11: Front link: Install the well greased bolt in & tighten

Step 12: Rear link: Install the well greased bolt in & tighten

Step 13: (optional) Sit in car & play with your tight new shifter

All done in approx 30 minutes

Loose shifter bushes application also for:
BF BG BA BJ Mazda, Protege and KC KE KF KH KJ KN KQ Ford Laser or Liata
