Hard to Change gears - Really knotchy / Stubborn - 180,000KMs on the car

Hi All,

Since I am driving my car again, I find that it is really hard to put it into 1st and even 2nd sometimes.

I have done 180,000KMs on the car and currently it has the Kartboy Short Shifter. It is so tough sometimes that I feel like I need to use two hands!

Any Ideas? Is it the Clutch? I have been told that the clutch feels fine.

firstly, bleed the clutch fluid... any air in the line will cause the clutch not to disengage completely

secondly, replace the gearbox oil with high quality synthetic... I recommend only redline or motul as they're tried and true for our cars... they greatly improve shift quality!

If your clutch is ok.
Do a drain on your transmission fluid, sometimes some new transmission fluid can work wonders, also while draining it is an idea to inspect the old fluid for large amounts of metal particles. Make sure there isn't a large amount of bronze or silver coloured particles.
Bronze coloured flakes could be caused by damaged baulk rings.
where as a large amount of silver coloured flakes could be caused by a damaged 1st/2nd synchro hub assembly. (not that this would be the problem)
Should also check the shift linkages
