Brake Dimesnsions

I was wondering if it is possible to alternate brake sized on the front and rear of a car. For example, if your car came with 18mm thick rotors on the front, can you go ahead and install 22mm rotors? Or would you be needing to make other adjustments aswell.

I believe the 1.8L BG Astinas came with 22mm rotors on the front, whereas my sedan has 18mm rotors. DBA only make rotors for the Astina, so basically I want to know if you can use the 22mm Astina style rotors on the front of mine?

Also, can anyone confirm the thickness of the rear rotors on the astinas? Are they 9mm?

on a BA - yup.

251mm (diameter ) by 9.0mm ( thickness )
... or 9.88" x 0.35" if ur old

also, if the rotor raches 8mm it should be replaced.

front discs are 257mm x 22mm on 1.8 and 274 x 22 on v6.

v6 arnt that much bigger really at all !

umm ... not sure - but i would think yes, since the caliper will adjust to the thickness. Since pad thickness will drop from 8mm to minimum 1mm i would expect that there is space for 4mm in there somewhere.

rears may not be as simple since they may be fixed width calipers.

Thanks Dave. My understanding is the rears on the Sedan and Astinas are the same width anyway (9mm) which DBA make a rotor for. I may have some luck using a slotted rotor from a laser on the front too, I believe they came with an 18mm thick rotor with all the other dimensions equal (makes sense, they shared a few parts). Otherwise, I don't see much of a problem using the thicker 22mm rotors. I know the KH Gl laser owners can use the TX3 rotors as a straight swap, but them may have a bigger diameter rather then thickness.

Something will turn up

you could always mill down a pad if you really feel up to it so you can fit thicker rotors.

but all being equal, you'd be better off trying to work out some way to duct air so it hits your rotors directly. something like this :

money better spent.

the caliper will be the same but the astina caliper may be wider to accomodate the thicker rotor. but you could maybe fit the part that holds the outer pad from the astina, which is the part which gives it the extra width.
sorry if this is mumbo jumbo, but its very hard to explain!!!!
and yes the rears are 9mm on the bg, and the caliper is a sliding sleeve design.

Would it be as simple as using calipers from a later model with the bigger rotor? If so I'll probably grab new front calipers aswell

try looking into the series 5 or 6 rx7 4 pot calipers. they are exactly the same internally, however i think the 6 looks better (cleaner lines and looks bigger) and also the mounting lugs are longer because the s6 cams with 294 rotors and the s5 was only 280 or something.

with mine, using the same mounting points (well similar), 295mm rotors fit perfect
