Poor/Dim headlights - V6 Astina Hatch (1996)
Just wondering if anyone can lend me a hand - I bought a V6 Astina hatch (1996) at the start of the year and have found that the headlights don't project much light (only the small round headlights barely light up about 2-3 metres in front of the car; both headlights come on when high beam is turned on), and even with the standard fog lights turned on, the lack of visibility and distance illuminated by these headlights at night is a concern. I have taken it to an auto-electrician that simply told me that the wiring was correct (the main headlight is the little round light on the entire front light) and the lack of light is a design flaw in the hatch model, and I would just have to get used to it. I was just wondering if the above information I was given correct at all? I have even replaced the bulbs with the standard wattage etc (thinking they were no good) and have also had the headlight aim reset - any suggestions at what I could do? Cheers

You will need to check that they are pointing in the correct direction, if they are aimed too high or low then you wont have bugger all visibility.
I used to have my fogs and lights on at the same time and they pretty much lit up everything Park your car in front of a wall with lights on to check the beam angles |

yeah but that being said the hatch lighting is still lacking :P and yes it would be one of the main draw backs to the car
ps at least u got the fog lights it is worse without them :P i was followin a mate the other night and when we pulled up he asked if i always drive with only my parkers on in the night..... i had my full lights on. if u really want better lighting visit that HID thread u may find ur answer there. ow and welcome to the fourm. u will learn heaps .... i did/am :P Last edited by skitz; 24-12-2006 at 10:59 AM. |

i have never had this problem with my BA astina, i have a P3 so the glass and globes are different then P1s and P2s. i have aimed my headlight up alittle more than required and sometimes i get asked, " why you driving with your highbeams on?" but i'm not.

P1 + P2 have 2 metal screw/bolt looking thingos per headlight, us philips head screwdriver and turn, 1 for up + down, 1 for left + right.
P3 have 2 plastic bolt looking thingos, can use philips head screwdriver or allen keys and turn same as above. just park straight on facing a wall, turn each one to see what it does, then adjust to where best. might take 2 or 3 goes against the wall to get best results. ryan |

is also good if you can have a totally dark area (like a road) and park in the middle of it - somewhere like a level industrial estate, with no lights...
just don't forget to only do one light at a time!!
