Question bout prob with Astina SP... 91 model ...
Yo peoples..
Well i got a question.. My brother has a Astina with the pop up lights... ummmm 91 model i think SP too... and i was wondering if anyone has this prob.. The revs drop... and rise .. on idle... But like its not a lil difference ... you can feel it to the point of almost stalling... What do you people think would be the problem... And i bet this has been mentioned before but this lil astina seems to be pretty bad with it ... so yeh =D If anyone can help would be appreciated... =D

first of all is there any sign of it stalling when its actually driving it? if so then i say O2 sensor, if not then its the tempreture control switch which is just under the thermostate....ive had both the control switch and o2 snesor go, the revving is from the control switch if all ur noticing is when its stoped

Yeh its when your idling at the lights it drops to like 200 rpm and revs to 1000 then just repeats it...
I cant feel it when driving... Wheres the O2 sensor ... and what do i check for ?? And also ... wheres the control switch Exactly and what would you look for it theres a prob My brother Said he got the Air flow sensor got rebuilt and is brand new he got told that was the prob before and it stopped but its all happening again... =\ lol

My mate had a problem with his, but it was a SOHC, non sp. Basically the idles doesn't idle. It rev's up and down while his just sitting there. He took it to a mechanic and said it was the hydraulic lifters.
The only things I can think of that can affect the rev's is the auto choke, which could be a temperature sensor problem. I thought the O2 sensor is only used above 2000rpm where the Airflow Meter cannot read. Which leads me to the next thing that could affect it, the Airflow meter. But I would have thought this would have been threw throttle position changes. Edit: I think you can get error codes/proper volt reading from a Gregories or some workshop manual, and then use a multimeter.

Guys, dont waste your time trying to fix a rough idle...i wasted time and money changing fuel pump, FPR, computer, spark pluds, distributor, idle air control motor, airflow metre, oxygen sensor, air filter....but car(91 BG astina) still idled like sh**t...improved a little bit, but still could not idle perfectly...but i got 550kms out of my tank all the time afterwards
I think the hydraulic lifters might be the cause or something else worn inside the engine! Last edited by DrSilver; 27-09-2005 at 10:58 PM. |

I'd say an air leak, or a faulty ISC.

the o2 sensor must affect down further cause i had the same proelms chagned both that control switch nd the o2 sensor at the same time and it fixed the problem....check your error codes

ISC? Mine still runs like crap when I start it up... I've replaced the AFM, Coolent temp sensor, just got to try the O2 sensor now... I had my computer read and no error codes Damn it's a pain in the butt when you can't work out what's wrong

ISC = Idle Speed Controller. It's mounted under the throttle body. Unplug it and see if your problem continues. Also, squeeze the air hose that come comes out of it to the intake pipe and see if it effects your idle when you do so.
I dunno if the way the BPT and BP ecu's run things. But on the BPT if you unplug the O2 sensor and leave it unplugged, it doesn't effect the idle at all. Or it has never for me anyway.
