Hi All,
I have just joined this forum because I have been doing some work on my grandson's 1994 4 door Astina, 1.8 litre, (I think), DOHC. Had seriously overheated. Split radiator tank, & leaking from connection between water pump & outlet spigot. Have now replaced the whole cooling system, including water pump & radiator. Had to replace spark plug leads, because they had melted around the plugs & wouldn't pull out. Question is, how likely are we to have cylinder head damage, (head gasket, warped, cracked, etc) in the future. One problem that I see is noisy hydraulic lifters. In an MX6 we had some years ago, the fix was supposed to be to run Mobil 1 synthetic to clean out the lifters & then revert to 50/50 synthetic/mineral mix. That did work for the MX6. What is the current thought for a 1994 Astina ? Another problem that appeared is A/C Compressor clicking in & out, sometimes for less than a second, even though all A/C Switches are off. I found a forum fix for the sloppy gear shift & will likely get to doing that, IF the engine holds up in the short term. Thanks for reading & any comments/advice will be appreciated. |

Hi Peter, Gordon here - Re head gasket going how long is a piece of string
As you would know with the SEVERE overheating it has lessened the life of the gasket & could pop in 5 days, 5 weeks, 5 months or 5years. I've just updated a thread on the loose shifter bushes on here today http://www.astinagt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22024 Hope that helps you out a bit |

Thanks for your response. That was also my thought about the head gasket.
Time will tell if this all has been a waste of money. I will have another look at your shifter bush update. I see that someone has suggested that the Kia Bushes are the best. Thanks again. |
