Kfde - klde, Sydney area
Hey all,
I was thinking of doing the above engine swap. I was wondering if anyone knows any place from port Macquarie to Sydney that would have these engines and how much I would be looking at to get it fitted? Also would the engine be cheaper from a wreckers??? I've read people have been paying in the order of 700 for the engines, is that a reasonable expectation? P.s this is for a 97 ba hardtop |

Hey mate, won't find any kfde, hard as **** to source, klde are around, but you would have to budget at least 1100 from my experience of getting some quotes in order to get a motor and box.
Try mazbits, situated in Granville. Or try just jap lansvale who last time I checked also had a klde about a month n a bit ago. |

IMO to move to the KL2.5L your options are buy a complete Mx- 6 or 626 do the lot it makes it easier to make legal as well.
You can transfer complete loom. You can import a late KL-ZE but at around $900 just for engine without even a decent loom attached plus Hi- Km engine. KL-ZE's of low KMs are not common anymore last ones were GW/GFs and most are GW autos. Because a KL-De was a local engine it makes them hold value and as they get older they won't drop if in good condition. I also think Your Better off just buying a 626 instead of the swap, as the benifits ain't that great. the body weight is only different by about 30KG overall. |

Doing a swap from a 626 also good because you get the trans with the taller 5th gear which will help. If you're good with a spanner and know your way around an engine look at buying a wreck from manheims.

I've looked into the MZ seires engines - the problem is the reverse head. intake on front and exhaust on rear.
It does not suit all engine bays and you need to add more heat protection. You loose alot of the Crumple zone space and in NSW. I'd almost bet NO engineer would pass it. For that reason. YOu would most likely need to also to get it somewhat legal do a complete front end swap. Cost astronomical it's expensive just on engineering costs alone. |
