Whats Best; Track & Irregular Street Brake Pads and Tyres

At the moment Im doing some research into bigger brake upgrades.

So far settled on the Yellowspeed 6 Pot 304mm Brake Kit. Whi h houses the same pads as the AP racing calipers.

Now to decide on pads.

Been recommended Hawk HP+ pads. Slightly worried about rotor wear, not really fussed of noise and dust issues.
Originally looking into Hawk Blue 9012 pads. Heard some bad things about these, has anyone heard any different?

Then theres A1RM pads. Again heard good and bad, from very hard to fade, to fade within 2 corners.

Can anyone else recommend any other brands?

Then on to tyres.

Can anyone recommend anything?

Looking at Federal SS595. Would these suffice?
Does anyone have any experience with others?

A1RM's scream their nuts off on alloy calipers... So make sure you get extra shim plates.
Went from Hawk to A1RM's on the Evo.
A1RM's perform better under track conditions and better on the street.
Less dust, bit more noise.

We have A1RM's in R33 GTR brembo's on one of our Z32's
The other is using A1RM in the Normal Z32 calipers.

Basically... All of our cars that see the track are using A1RM.

Ferodo are also a great option!

http://www.yellow-speed.com/brake-pads-New.php

Was if MX5mania that suggested Hawk pads. Last year when I was looking at the YSR BBK, MX5mania suggested them. I decided not to go with them cos they wanted an extra $200 for brake pads where other retails offer the brake pads as standard. the other retailer never got back to me after initial price quote, and i never followed it up with them.

If selecting a pad and using a huge rotor. You gotta be looking at the operating temps of the pads. I doubt the car is fast enough or heavy enough to warrent crazy track only pads, and will eat rotors bigtime. A fast street pad should do the job for you.

tyres:-
depends on what you are chasing, my favs currently.
Very low wear, medium grip street:-
Kumho KU31
Federal 595EVO

Low wear, medium grip semis:-
Kumho KU36
Dunlop Z1 Star Spec

High grip, high wear semis:-
Hankook RS3
Nitto NT01 (my next tyre purchase)

p.s. Make sure the YSR calipers will fit behind you wheels. They can send you a printable template if you require.

As above... That was the point I was also going to make.

I have street pads and are yet to cook them (remsa's) whilst being absolutely punished for extended lengths of time.
That's only with a 299x25 rotor. Due to our cars being light weight... When you are running massive rotors, we gain the advantage of being able to run a performance street pads

That was MX5 mania recommending.
But they do come with pads supplied.

Ill be running 17x8s. Should fit?

What would I expect to pay for the Kuhmo 36s?

The Federals supposedly I can get the SS595 for 130 for 215/40/17

I have federal SS... Would go the EVO's if you can.

Also... It's not the width of the rim that's the issue... It's spoke design and offset that affects calliper clearance

What's the price of the YSRs, just out of curiosity? Sorry for the offtopic.

I'm impressed with ku36 as a daily tyre. Better than any tyre in the wet, when driving through pooled water it tracks straight and doesn't try to slide. Dry performance is better than my skill level currently. For the sane price as ku31 they are a bargain. Don't think they will see past 10k. I drive like an idiot everywhere though with lots of corners. Probably done 4-6 mountain passes, one night at the drags and 3000kms and the fronts are worn down noticeably.

Not much track tyres in 215/40R17. Best to find the best street performance tyre if sticking to low profiles.

greatest tyre size out there for 17's is 235x45 R17

you can get whatever you want and extremely cheap prices... they are the Evo tyre sizes.
but depending on just how low you want to go... you probably cant fit that in your guards.

put it this way... Continental contact3's... $140 a Tyre fitted... lol crazy cheap

but that s a 6.13% diameter difference (legal without recalibration is 3%)
and judging by the stretch with the 215 on the 8" rim, you are in scrub city! lol

235/45R17 is cheap cos it is on every commo and falcon out there. plus later model rexes and evos etc. the most common sizes are alway cheapest.

personally if you had to go bigger than 15s on a astina, then 16x7 +35 and 205/50R16 would be the way to go. another common tyre size and motorsport tyre friendly options. that'll allow 300mm rotors.

i'd just hit the track with whatever options you have now. if the current brake dont hold up, then upgrade. if the current tyre don't hold up, then change. better off start basic, then upgrading to sticky tyres and huge front anchors. that wat you learn and understand what every upgrade does. and adjust you driving style and skills to suit.

Yeah exactly. That's why if you could get away with using that size... You should lol.

Look Into the sizes the mx5 boys are using most commonly on track applications. Bcause they commonly do group buy's on semi slicks etc

most of the mx5 guys are running 15x8s and using 205/50R15 or 225/45R15 tyres. some use 15x9 and the 225 options. heaps of r-spec tyres in that range.
