Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ Thread

I was under impressed with the car when i saw it I must say, 3 years of looking at concepts must have ****ed with my judgement (that and the ride/ top end acceleration of my 8)
Apparently subi aust applied for a compliance of a rwd turbo!
But we shall see
There are quite a few bugs to work out, like squeaks, noises, some cars not having tranny fluid from factory, some cars pinging from new etc
Overall still great car
It doesn't need a turbo really, it handles great and goes alright from stock, but for those wanting more pull, it's a great, cheap option, and it still handles great and not like a land boat and is light

Lol, that's a bit of an extensive set up. E85, 850cc injectors, full standalone ecu, with a 2871 strapped to the side of it. That set up is a waste without the forgies to back that up. Turbo is wayyyyyyyy out of its efficiency range. And huge lag for that power (watched the vid)

How do you get that? And considering some of the builds that go on that's next to nothing. The block has yet to be opened, cams are yet to be changed. Everything's been external so far.

And what do you mean by outside of its efficiency range?

Not saying its like ridiculously expensive... But just saying its bit of poor choice of parts... Guess it looks better on paper. Block yet to be opened... Cams yet to be changed... No beadwork what so ever...
Running a 2871 (didn't look see what the trim was) but that turbo should be running on 16-21psi ish Mabey up to 23 depending on trim (48 to 56)

Turbos are one million times more responsive when pushed hard into its eff. Range.

For that power and that low boost, and it's running on E85... And has high comp NA internals It is stupidly laggy. Yes running a 2871 over a t28 on the same boost will get you a bit more power... But makes it much more laggy.
On 9psi that's well withing the range of a T25.
Put it this way... Look at the Evo... Basically 2871 sized turbo... Runs 18-21 psi stock. (spikes at 21 and slowly droops off)
And you now have an engine that comes on cam miles before the turbo comes into efficiency.

Run at most a T28 on 9psi with stock cams. Make pretty much the same power probably 10kw less, have a nicer torque curve. Much sooner power an nicer to drive.

Having revisited the site, I think they choose that turbo to as it gives them room to grow.

For instance they started off at 4psi. Remember this engine is largely untested, we do not know how strong the rods/pistons are or how well the open deck design will cope with boost etc.

That's why I said T28 (or T28 sized) would have been nicer. Still good for up to 18psi

A well known Sydney workshop apparently well how do I say this
One blew up a Jap engine from some nissan ? can't remember much.Other then is was big ?
but toward the end of it all, I was informed two things - 1 - was I interested in a 2JZ bottom end - answer - Not yet. 2nd Said workshop - who has in the past built many many many many WRX Drag cars.
Has 86 and a 86 engine and been working on turbo - nitrous - Yes NOS.
I understand it's for US market.
Big thing they said - Still won't rev hard. Rods are strong so far bent not broken- pistons ain't ? cracked land is what he said. But 25PSI so ?

So expect to see it out at WSID - is my understanding soon. Being RWD it makes sense to me.

Saw a black Subaru version today in Milton.

On first impressions, the Subaru front was more appealing than the Toyota
