Mazda 323 Astina Questions

Hello all,

im new to the forums, ive sold my 4 litre ford falcon fuel guzzler, and am starting to look for the Mazda 323 Astina 1995-1997 model, 5 speed 1.8 litre hatchbacks.

I would just like to know a bit more about the car before i go out and start inspecting.

Does the above model, have the following?

- do they have ABS?
- What size rims come standard?
- Are the front discs ventilated and the rears solid discs?
- How many speakers are in the car and what size are they?
- What are the common or known problem with these car models if any?
- what do they do 1/4 mile and 0-100km/hr in?

Thanks fellas, hope to join the club

ABS on the V6

185/65/r14 or 195/55/r15 for 4 cyc
205/50/r16 for V6

discs are as you asked - V6 pads 33% bigger than I4 pads

hatch speakers fronts 5"x7" rears 5"
hardtop speakers fronts 5"x7" rears 6"x9"

power steering/air-com belts normally die about 150,000km
rear brakes on I4 normally too thin at 160,000km
tappet noise when old + cold

414m + 0-100kph times = slow, but heaps of mods that get these times down heaps

Whats the difference between the hardtop models and the hatch models apart from the rear shape? never heard of them calling cars hardtop...

also, do you mean its a common problem of the powersteering and aircon BELTS dieing at 150k or the powersteering pump and AC compressor?

the ones im looking at have done 100 000km, so im assuming theylll be right.

Thanks mate

Not only are the v6 pads bigger but the rotors are as well
276mm(F) and 256mm(R) Not positive on the rears at this point
The difference with the Hardtops are they are heaps sexier and thats all that matters, slight increase in weight over the hatch, but not much
Aus delivered v6 comes with 104kw and 183Nm
JDM has 125kw and 183Nm
Can slip a JDM 2.5l v6 (from the mx6, 626 or Eunos 800) between the strut towers to deliver 147kw and 223Nm
Aus Astina should manage mid to high 16s in stock trim for manual with a promising driver, less for better
Hardtop has shorter springs and sits slightly lower to the ground
Biggest problem with the Astina range is the waterpumps (never do the belts up too tight) and HLA noise (commonly called tappets ....Why??)
A good service history would be highly desirable as these cars dont reward mistreatment
Fuel use is quite good IMO
I used to regularly get over 600ks to my v6 tank (55l) and should manage more with the I4
