For one, just having a pod stuck on the end of the MAF will leave you with heatsoak from the engine, exhaust etc. You'd basically be sucking in hot air - low performance.
If you were to run a Cold Air Intake, and on our cars this is behind the bumper (out of the engine bay), where its receiving "Cold Air" for it to perform. I however, with my AutoExe intake, am running a "Short Ram Intake" whereas the air is rammed in a shorter distance, yes still in the engine bay, but heat is deflected by the way of the CF shroud...

marc woudent your old intake be better then the new 1?? id assume the air behine the front bumper would still be alot cooler then behine the headlight in the engine bay???
My 1st intake i just had some silicon pipeing from the afm heading to behine the headlight and just had a pod there, i didnt have any heatshield so performance wasnet much better but it gave the best sound just because it was a pod right there. This was the cheapest way to get a nice sound, pipeing was the stock pipeing off a mates galant so that was free and the pod was a SCA once from supacheap that cost $20.
