It looks sorta tough in a ghetto way too, but for the sake of drags, it's probably the single easiest way to get good ram air without chopping up your car...

Yep, been there, done that. Didn't want the ghetto look, so I ended up just chopping out the area below the snorkel inlet.

My exhaust does not have a heat shield, which contributed to high intake temps(up to60 degrees!). Now have injen wrapped in 19mm thick Armaflex. Overkill, yes, but that's all I could get. Pipe is now cool, but I haven't yet checked the intake temp.

I'll post the temp difference soon, since it could be relevant to the thread, ie cheap, simple and easily reversible modifications.

Oh, I didn't post in this thread, you would have to search for topics on CAI to read my rantings... But I was directly responding to Sleepy actually, as the grill removal only applies to the BJ model 323s (so no pics for you! ). However it's a good example of how affective simple ram air can be.

That is the resonator. Many an hour and dollar has been spent creating that box to even out the air flow into the air box, but otherwise it succeeds in restricting air-flow. Look up 'resonator removal', and you'll get some idea on how to remove it. It can be done in a BA through the passenger side wheel arch or by removing the front bumper.

The point of removing is that it becomes uneccessary when you put in your piping, and the piping will be much easier to duct to that fog light spot where the resonator 'was'.

Found the best BA documentation (post resonator removal) thanks to asangag

I pretty much used this as reference, but with a black pipe, and i also found a mesh end to fit onto the silicone hose then sprayed it all black, but kept it tucked in behind the bumper.

you kept the hose tucked behind the bumper where the resonator use to be?? then where did you get air intake from? you didnt cut a hole or anything? coz i want to put it through here where this plastic looking grill is...

but theres a metal piece blocking it..

so im thinking i take out the resonator and cut a hole through the plastic cover under the resonator for the hose to go through...

what do you guys think??

Just checked the intake temps with the insulated CAI. Outside temperature about 32. Cruising at 100 was 33, parked in sun idling for 5 minutes 44 (still slooowly increasing but had to go), within 5 minutes at 60-100kph stable at 35. So thats at least 15 degrees cooler while stopped than stock. Not a huge performance mod of course, but cooler=denser=more power ( maybe even as much as 0.001kw!? ). It's cheap, easy and reversible.

post up some photos in your readers ride. i debated having a black hood on my white hardtop for about 5min, thought it would look wanky trying to imitate a light weight carbon fibre bonnet.

the black looks good, much better than i thought it would.

really its up to you, it makes the car stand out and attract more attention. is that what you want? also consider cops, have you had many run ins with them? maybe changing the bonnet back will cut those run ins down. in the end its really up to you to look at the car and decide if you like it as is or if you want a change. hmm, does the respray have to be white?

why not put a line at the top of the guards, doors and rear 1/4 and make the top half of the car black

I say paint just the roof black as well. But the bonnet alone does look good in black.

decided to paint it back to white in the end...i think it looks better white as a whole and heres my 1st DIY job on my car...looks messy but im pretty happy with it...

performance wise so far is ok coz i havnt done a CAI system yet...use to drop about 1000 - 1300 when changing gears now i only drop 500 which is good i think ...noise level is louder and it does get warm but not hot coz i stuck all da way into the corner..

im thinking about putting like a mini roof scoop or slits in the bonnet just above the pod as CAI...i think it would look nice and its easier..i juss dont trust myslef to take the front bumper off..but then when it rains im afraid it'll affect the pod...what do you guys rekon..??
