i thought i read somewhere that you can weld additional strength into the bearings area that dramatically helps the case strength?

here's a thread from the dead!

Update:

What you'll need for BA F series to BA G series gearbox conversion

• Clutch and Flywheel from a BA11P1 or BG DOHC (turbo included)
• Gearbox from a BA11P1 - coded G25MR
• Clutch line/slave cylinder from a BA11P1
• Front gearbox mount
• Top gearbox mount
• BA11P1 Driveshafts. Also can be found in early KJ lasers and Laser Lynx

Interesting notes

You won't need to change the wheel hubs as the BA 1.8 F and G both use the same spline size into the hubs, even thought the G series driveshafts are otherwise a fair bit larger.

Regarding top gearbox mount, you'll only need the actual part of the mount that mounts to the separate gearbox mount. You could possibly use the BG DOHC mount as it looks the same from photos i've seen)

BA11P1 Driveshafts can also be found in early KJ lasers and Laser Lynx.

My mechanic did swapover the hubs as they were basically unbolted anyway but when asked said he thought they were the same just to confirm Dans suspicions.

I found that a bit strange to be honest - amazing that Mazda didn't make it different for the hell of it as usual.

Another thing, the G series front gearbox mount is a bigger, so you may have clearance issues with the GTX turbo snout and piping

Shaft comparison size - G on the Left, F on the right. Pic is of LHS driveshaft, hence the circlips.

What did you end up doing about the LSD?

I've got a second G Series Box i intend to try and strengthen a bit, and the LSD will go in that. Also going to hook up a gearbox oilcooler to that one.

This g was just about getting the car back on the road more reliably, so i can sort the strengthened one at my leisure...or until this one breaks lol

So does that mean the car is on the road? Or is it missing half the body panels?

Hahaha you're very perceptive!

it's currently missing:

Bonnet
Boot
Front bumper
Rear bumper
Front wheels (well, tyres really)
RHS mudflaps
Gearbox Oil
Airbox
Rego
RWC

But theoretically it could all be driveable next week, depends if i have the time.

Here is a pic of the front mounts for the G and F series gearboxes, the F is on the right and the G on the left, the only problem I have found with trying to fit the G series mount in the G series gearbox is that the bolts on the bottom dont match up with the frame on my F series car. Tho the metal frames are different aswell it looks like the F series mount will fit in the G series frame, I will find out tomorrow and let you guys know

Thats weird - my G Series front gearbox mount looks basically the same as the F Series one (with two close bolts) - nothing at all like the one of the left

You need a G from a BA, 94-early 95. But don't forget there's a big list of other stuff you'll need as well.
