AWD Sport 20 gearbox

Does anyone know what box the car runs? Wanna do some research on the box.

Donor car would make the project fairly easy cept for the floor plan. Dunno about suspension.

obvious thought to mind would be the AWD setup from a GF/GW capella considering it's where they stole the engine from.

G25MX-R same as BG GTR/GTAe but without viscous coupling center differential.

JDM 1.7L diesel 4WD BHAs also had them.

I think there were some FP powered 4WD BJs in JDM land also.

yep some were, I think it's in the premercy.

Rupe sent me a premercy broshure way back. So it's in my museum somewhere.

but 1.8L 4wd I think was there.

the Capella's had Viscus on the early 90's mid and rear but changed to merchanical on rear. but I wonder if they ever changed the middle.

I know it's the same on the deisel engine too.

I wonder if they sold auto versions in the Sport 20 as well - proberly did.

I guess the question after that is what gearbox is on the MZR 4WD Mazda 6's ? I mean non turbos not MPS

S
From memory most sport 20's were 4wd's there were both manual and auto available. There was a FWD sport 20 Auto
I believe the auto was tiptronic.
There was a 1.8 4WD auto as well.
Some links to check these seem to contain almost all familias except for the limited edition Infini?? 1.8 sedan in 1989-91 era. Was a very limited edition. Damned nice as it came with LSD as standard (NO not the drug)

Apparently the MPSs' use a development of the G series gearset, but the actuation is quite different.

The AWD rear is fairly different - obviously the whole rear suspension is different, and the muffler placement is different too - less room.

But there's a few 1.8 AWDs on the auctions from time to time. I'd assume they'd use the G-series box, as it's an off-the-shelf item and as far as i know there's no F-series AWD box.

The Sport20 auto was tiptronic, but only gearshift-selectable, not steering wheel mounted.

Edit: the BJ 1.5 also came as an AWD.

Thats alright rupe, to go from f series to basic g series box isnt that much of a issue.

Just need the splines, the mounts, gearbox. Everything meets up fine just need the donor parts from a SP20. ohh and fly wheel

Hmmm, It aint that easy... The FS-DE sits about 10mm further back and to the right to accommodate the G series. I guess you could use the 3 mounting brackets from the FS bellhouse (2 of these won't come with a gearbox), and then lengthen the LHS driveshaft 10mm while putting 28spline inner hubs on the driveshafts too. That's about the least you can do to make it fit. I wouldn't consider it unless a turbo was in the midst...

yeah Rupe the only issue I see with the new boxs as I had good offer of a 6 speed Sp23 box - was cable setup V the rods and I LOVE RODS and SHAFTS.
