My opinion of V8s lasting longer in simply because they are less techy than a turbo,

the old KISS maxim, Keep it simple stupid,
ie less moving parts less things that can fark up,

For example a turbo needs better cool down, warm up. IF you take the care it is not an issue of course.

Not a hard and fast rule but generally I stand by what I said.

And Just for the record FI is not cheating, it is simply a different route.

Like Land barge Vs pocket rocket, different strokes differenty folks.

I personally wouldn't want a 4+ litre anything (with under 10 cyclinders) but they do have advantages.

well actually, the reason most V8's in terms of old american pushrod things being the way they are is, it's like oyu said KISS but also the main issue. MORE CUBIC INCHES TO MAKE MORE POWER.
Now this is so you make less stress engine.

Example is you get a 200HP 1.8L 4 clyinder and drive it day in day for 150,000km's
Get your old school push rod 3.8L V6 making 200HP do the same, do normal maintance to them normal factory specs etc. I garrentee you a the 3.8L V6 still has close to factory comp when it left - don't use any more oil then when it left factory.
Wear lines and worn bearings NAH.
Open oyur hi -tech hi rev four, it woudl have lost a bit of compression bearings just showing the signs of wear.

Old school V8's actually don't last longer once someone starts to play.
I've seen many fail and go up in smoke. 90% of all motors will go along just fine as long as there are tuned well and keep good clean oil and fuel.
