Any BJ's with fuel surge when cornering?
With the new wheels and tyres I'm getting fuel surge when cornering hard with 20 litres still in the tank. Really embarassing and dangerous. LW mentioned using a swirl pot, which might deal with the fuel, but I'm starting to wonder about the oil now. Maybe the new tyres have too much grip for the stock suspension, allowing too much body roll for the fuel and oil systems.
Would firmer suspension/sway bars reduce body roll enough to stop this? Or would this improve the cornering force enough to cancel out the reduced body roll, leading to surge again? At what point does the oil pickup uncover? I know the cheapest solution is to stop having so much fun, followed by carry more fuel, but some better ideas would be good. I'll search around Mazdas247 too and post up here just in case it helps someone here in future. |

IMO having a stiffer suspension will only throw any liquids even faster within the car. body roll prob acts as a sort of a damper n doesnt allow the liquids to get throw around a surge tank (swirl pot?) and run a dry sump system then you can lower the engine n improve your centre of gravity, n run a oil system with a surge tank as well hehe just joking but would be good if money wasnt a issue

I had the same trouble with my MX and found the trouble with the fuel pump, but to make it easier, make sure about the fuel filter and hoses, then also there is a screen filter on the pump in the tank that you can check, but the trouble that I had was- The moment that the pump is not submerged in fuel anymore, it sucks air on the casing and thus dropping fuel pressure. Happy hunting!

Thanks. Stock fuel pump. I'll check the filter, I think it's due anyway. Seems odd that my lightly modded car would have trouble when others don't.
Don't know why the filter would cause the problem though. Either it's submerged or it's not. If it was clogged up, wouldn't it have trouble when accelerating hard, possibly more so with a low fuel level(whatchacallit- hydrostatic pressure?)? It seems to happen when reversing turn direction quickly, like on roundabouts where turning left to enter, then right to go round. Easy to imagine the effect on the fuel in the tank, sloshing up one way, then if timed right, even harder the other way, uncovering the pick up. Just a theory though. |
