[color=#000000ost_uid0]My Astina Hardtop has been giving me clunking/ noises when metal knocking noises when I brake. This sound is coming from my right wheel.
Had my car brought in to Penfold Mazda to rectify that problem. Apparently, the brakes calipers pins are sliding around due to wear and tear. He said some grease will ease off the sound. He also said that this is a common problem among the Astinas. They had it greased but the sound still occurs. Is this true? Have anyone of you encountered this problem before?[/colorost_uid0] |

I had a mechanic put some brake joining compound on mine,it lasted about 3 days then was doing the same thing :angry: If its definately the caliper pins i think ill have to look into replacing them,More money Ive heard a few BA Astina owners say they have the same problem,just gotta put up with it man,till you can afford to replace the pins,i know it doesnt sound right,but rest asurred it no real drama,ive been driving my car with those clunks from the brakes for 2 years now Catch ya [/colorost_uid11]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]Yeah its one of those defects that cause its not life
threatening doesn't get a recall so now we have to pay for it. Make sure you get the pins that were designed to fix the clunk not the original part number. Regards Mal[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid1]I thought the Ka-tunk from the air filter was worse than the
brakes noise. *I only get it when reversing ?? *Mazda is the place you just need to be clear that you have the clunk and need the pins that fix it. *I think from last time this was raised they were about $80 a corner so its your decision. Get the price from Mazda and let us know again. *Part number would be good to so we can write it down in the mods section. Regards Mal[/colorost_uid1]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]Thanks. It sure is very annoying. And it gets louder when there are more passengers in the car. Sounds like a train when it just started to move - Cllllunnnkkkkk!!!
Very embarassing. :angry: Penfold Mazda said that there are not original parts but they do have modified pins to fit. I will call them tomorrow to check on the price. Are there any other defects on this beautiful car? The defect reminds me of a hot girl who fartsss [/colorost_uid0] |

[color=#000000ost_uid0]Hi Fellas,
Sorry for the much delayed reply. I called Penfold Mazda in Burwood, Vic for the cost of replacing the slides. It is A$150 for all 4 brakes and it include labour costs. Interested??[/colorost_uid0] |

[color=#000000ost_uid0]The clunking noise is your Caliper Slides seizing... the noise has pretty much disappeared from my astina... UNTIL today... :angry: and I hate driving through roadworks... *my poor front spoiler and side skirts with more stonechips* :angry:[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#3A6EA5ost_uid0]Actually the caliper slides are slipping NOT siezing. Like Mal said, this is common problem among the 94-98 astina's (and same model laser). This was an optional warranty job, but as not many people discovered the problem until it was out of warranty people like us are stuck with it. Not life theatening, just anoying. Usually happems when breaking while turning (like turing into a driveway).
To have this problem fixed for $150, well I was told more like $200 per quater. I think I like the sound of the prior.[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]Heh. but it's possible it was rectified before i bought the car in 2000
i'd be guessing that's the case, as i'd think it would have showed up by now.[/colorost_uid0]
