Broken Ignition Barrel BA 1996, Seeking Advice
hey guys
so tonight i was trying to put my key in the ignition after filling up my car at the servo and it appeared that my key got half way in and didnt want to go any further no matter how much i would wiggle it or how hard i pushed it... RACV guy came and said my ignition was on its last legs as the brass pins or something were not working propperly... the key im using atm is old and looks like its about to break in half (actually has 2 splits in it) should i get a new ignition barrel and key? would it expensive to re-key the old locks to the new key too so that i dont have 2 keys? thanks for any advise any one has zoolanda |

just get a new key made and go from there
if you have a bunch of crap hanging on your keychain, it will wear out the key cylinder!

if that is what you think, then replace it... I'm sure a locksmith can change the tumblers to match the key of the rest of the car

it's easier to replace the key compared to replacing the barrel.
key is a as simple as getting a new key cut. barrel requires steering wheel and and plastics to be removed. combo switch and electrics to be removed. and then the clamp that holes the barrel to the shaft will need to be drilled out. |

While you're in there replacing the fugled barrel you mentioned, consider having an 'ignition cut' kill switch wired in before the relay. It will help stop or at least slow down any low moneyed/low moralled scumbag from stealing your ride. Plenty of places to hide it in there.
