BA front wheel question.

I have a BA (hatch I think you guys call it?) and I recently acquired a set of MS-01f rims. So the other day I put on my new wheels but quickly found out that the rears rub on the arches every time I go over even a small bump at 40mph or more.

Fronts 7JJ + 35 205/50/16
Rears 8JJ + 35 225/50/16

The rears are 10mm wider than my previous rears.

I guess I have a couple of questions.

1. Can I swap the rears with the fronts? The fronts dont even nearly rub so I guess that as long as the additional 2cms of width don't impair the steering I could swap them over?

2. Can I put narrower tyres on so the wheels rub less? I believe it's possible to use narrower tyres and stretch them over the width of the rim?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

being a fwd car, the wider should be on the fronts.

and 215/45R16s should be a better size to run.

225/50 is just too big.

I have some 215/50/16s on some other rims. If I swapped them over and put them on the fornt do you think that would work?

actually on 8 inch rim he need 225-40 or 45 R16 to make it not rub as much.

stagered offset is for RWD and on FWD must be reversed other wise you can easily find the rear over taking the front.

It's an almost NO NO on FWD.

your 205's/50/r16 ain't bad but you could go 215 to even it out a bit more.

you don't want it too track out too far but you might find that the rim wil lstill rub on the front.

stretching tyres by a small amount is not best but each tyre makes has minimal rim and max rim width they fit. the min is usually the stretched. some makers on some model tyres will stretch more then other tyre makers. example on some bridgestone you can't stretch on the Kuhmo's and Falken you can.

We're talking about very little streching, though. Like putting a 215 tyre on a rim that currently has a 225 tyre on. Even a 205 onto an 8inch rim would be OK surely?

Using 225/50/16 in place of 205/50/16 increases total diameter from 611mm to 631mm putting these in the front will put a 4% error onto your speedo IE reads 100km/h but actually 104km/h and do nasty things to acceleration.
225/45/16 reduces tyre diameter by 2.5mm which is almost unnoticeable.
