RWD FE to F2 conversion

I know it's not realy something that will be pertinant to an Astina forum but just for the record.

I've wanted more low end torque since I bought the 929 and when I bought an F2 head for $100 i thought it would be a worthy swap, a few parts and shazam. During my investigation I came across some info on a B2200 commercial featuring an F2 engine with 12 valves. All I had to do was find a few parts and I was in business. No luck as it's a Mitsubishi engine (wtf did Mazda call it an F2 not cool).
Long story short, F2 project dead

Good news is that an FE3 project is as possable and the wrecker is interested in the project so I should get some realy good co-opperation.

so the f2 mazda engine is really a mrbitchy engine?? or the head swap you thought you had found info on was really done on a mrbitchy engine, that someone had dropped into there B2200, that happened to have the same name as the mazda engine ??

or are you talking aobut F2 charades ... no lets not bring charades into this :P

Mazda F2 engine is all Mazda (except for the bastard half breed Mitsubishi job only found in the '90 B2200).
My problem is that the F2 was never a RWD and will never be (without some serious casholla).

The F2 626/mx6 block would fit easily into my engine bay with an FE 8 valve head and I'd probably get an acceptable result but I'd need an engineers certificate and for a small gain that can only be proven by numbers stamped on the block, well BAH HUMBUG

KIA FE3 has a 6 bolt crank unlike the Mazda 8 bolt and you can't get a Mazda flywheel to line up. Also Mazda FE3 is $750 unlike the KIA for $2000

As for a rotary 929, ho hum, been there done that

Depending on the engine I get I may rebuild the bottom end. The KIA crank won't fit to a Mazda flywheel so more expense again. The bigest change to make is moving the thermostat housing from the rear of the engine to the front and that's a handfull of KIA parts.
Other problemas with the KIA are the crank angle sensor, de-tuned ecu and mild cams. A 626 FE3 will fit an Mx-5 distributor so the plan is to use a lot of MX-5 parts (AFM, modified inlet manifold, distributor, loom, ecu, etc....) and then when the engineer is happy and everything signed off I would have a Wolf 3D plugin installed.

Rod, there's a webpage devoted to a dude who is building some kind of 2.4L Miata (he's a yank) using all sorts of FE3 parts and custom stuff. It might be worth chasing it down if you haven't already.

Thanks Aaron,
Mal pasted it a while back and I have studied it. My current 929 plans are to keep it alive until I can seat myself back in an Astina. I may do something suprising with it when it's not my main mode of transport.

I just thought I note having own both F2 and F2T's
that into RWD well similar has been done and I do under stand a few E seres vans running F2t's in them.

really only thing stopping you is the fact you need to run the ignition systme off something like a MSD or similar to eliminate the dizzy.
plus F2's and F2'ts can be had cheap - well actually bottom ends get thrown away heads don't,

F2 12 Valve from an Mx-6/626 has a rear mounted distributor and won't fit into a 929.
The F2 commercial has the 8 valve head the same as the 929 FE and would be my first choice due to ease of conversion.
