WSID cruise 27 November

Well I've just had confirmed that the 2nd round of the ANDRA Sport Compact Drag Racing Championship will be at WSID on 27 November (yes a sunday damn it).

Naturally I'll be taking a trip down to compete (and add to my points lead).

Are there any qlder's wanting to come on a cruise? I'll be taking the 25th (friday) and 28th (monday) off from work and those will be the travel days.

NSW ppl, care to join in and race or come along for a meet? anyone else? well just come along.

here's the info (nothing there yet, but i'm sure will get updated) : http://www.wsid.com.au/default.asp?Page=Event&ID=91

I drive past WSID at least 4 times a day and I have never attended an event there (I lived 5 minutes up the road from eastern creek for 15 years and never made an event there)

I should drag (no pun intended) my lazy arse along and check it out.
I might bring my mate along to get some photos (he is quite the photographer even if I do say so myself).

If you are in Newcastle then get on the F3 and head towards Sydney. Get off at pennant hills road and head towards the M2. Jump on that and head towards Resevoir Rd/M4 and follow the signs to Eastern Creek.

Quite an easy drive really.

bad news.

this event has been cancelled. literally just got an email frmo jason o'halloran @ ANDRA. he said the issue is with WSID and ANDRA has no say.

here's the email :

Hi Guys,

Each one of you has personally asked what’s the go with the second round at WSID, and I have decided to email you before I do the press release later today.

It is with a hugely heavy heart that I learnt the Second round of the Series at WSID on November 27th has been cancelled.* The decision has been linked to major road closures in Sydney on that day, and is a decision made solely by the WSID track management.* They control the drag racing at that track and ultimately they make the call.* ANDRA has no say in it at all.

To say I’m disappointed is an understatement………I am gutted.* I can not begin to describe the effort and planning me and a lot of other people have put into this race series.* Countless hours, miles and miles of travel, and many sleepless nights have been endured to try to get something off the ground.

As it stands the WSID track management do not have a replacement date on offer, and I would think that confirmation will come in soon that the round is abandoned.* I am shaking my head as I write this to you, as I am still in disbelief that an alternative date could not be sourced.

I guess it is my job to break the bad news, and I do hope you understand this decision is totally, 100% out of my (and ANDRA’s) control.

The third round is scheduled for March next year at Willowbank Raceway on Saturday the 25th.** Damn! That’s over 5 months away.* NOT HAPPY.* I’ll see if I can arrange something else to keep us and the sport going in between.

I hope you understand, and thank you all for taking the time to email me regarding the dates etc.* If you were looking to voice your opinions to someone at WSID – direct (and encourage others to do the same) all the enquiries to peter@wsid.com.au

Maybe with a large enough response the WSID track might re-think it’s decision and reschedule another date

i emailed peter at wsid. this is the reply :

Hi Andrew,

We are disappointed too.I enjoy running the Sport Compact events (I have run
them here and in WA) and was annoyed when advised that the RTA were locking
off Ferrers rd on that day.

I am also involved in the introduction of the new hi tech classes in ANDRA
and so it is my best interest to ensure that the growth and potential of
Sport Compact racing is realised.

Apart from all our scheduled events we have a number of private bookings
that mean the venue is fully booked out until early February.

We are currently looking at the earliest available dates in the New Year.

Hang in there.
