BG Popup lights problem *i think*

Hi everyone,
for the past week, it seems my lights dont like to stay up.
That is, when i press the pop up lights button, the lights pop up all the way then close straight away. Before this, i was able to have the lights come up and down in 2 stages. 1st press - half way up. 2nd press - fully up. 3rd press - half down. 4th press - complete closed.
They stay up perfectly fine when the lights are switched on.
I checked the fuse in the engine bay which controls the pop up mechanicsm and it seems fine.
Any ideas?

no idea..thats how it was when i first got the car...
So from the factory that pop up light button (on the instrument cluster to the right behind the signal indicator) is made to just flip the lights up and down without stopping?
I would of thought that it was made to at least allow the lights to either stay up or down..as in fully up while driving without lights on..and then press the button to have it fully down?

The pop up button only pops the light completely up or completely down...ive never heard of this half-way thing! its main use is to change the bulb or for looks if you like it open all the time.

acutally the main use is designed fort the people that live in snow and ice....before you leave the car sitting there u put the lights up because in the morning the motors are frozzen and therefor will not pop up so you wont ahve any lights, so no from factory that button makes them rasie fully and stop there until u hit the button toput them down again so a previous owner of that car has been fiddling and i would say that is your problem

i know that some other cars such as the toyota celica and supra are able to put the lights at any point by turning the lights on then off, waiting for them to come down a bit, when they are at the right spot turn them back on to parkers i think and they hold that position. but the little switch on the dash should only pop up fully and down fully

Well right now mine just pop up then go back down again WITHOUT stopping..
Can any1 help me fix this problem? I checked the fuse in the engine bay relay box (30A one) and it appears to be fine.
Any other fuses or items i should check out?

They cause more wind resistance and make the car slow.
You should take them off.

Each light has a mind of its own. The up/down sensor is in the motor so that would make the switch my first guess (unless only one light is the problem).
I've played with this on my HB and SA22, even had one light that would wink when the lights were turned on

My problem was due to some make-shift wiring. I put it straight and it worked again.

Yeah!!!..hehe they are covered by this rubber capsule..take that off to reveal red knob..twist it..bit further..and cazaam! lights pop up and down violently! But i have no idea what the red knobs are for or what they do as i didnt get a manual with my car

The wires? But its been working fine for a while now just until last week..could it really be a wiring problem? If so, where are the wires located? The ones that you set straight?

This really sux..i loved the sleepy eye effect when i had it half open..now its just fully shut..blah

lol, I never read the manual till a good time after that little incident

As for the rubber over the red knob, that's what I was playing with at the time. They're there so that you can wind the lights manually if something should go wrong. However I think removing the fuse as Mazdamanik said may be a more friendly step

As for the reason they're going straight up and down when you push the button, I'd say it's because whatever circuitry that was causing the 'sleepy eye' effect has shorted somewhere. I could only recommend pulling off the dash and working your way back along the wires to find it, or start from the lights and work your way back. Hope this helps..
