bj astina 1.6 low power .
Hi guys i'm new to the forum and am after your help with a bj 323 1.6 manual we have bought for our daughter .
The car is low on power , it struggles to get up hills and to me has a flat spot on acceleration . Car also seems to take too long to fire up when starting . Also seems to run out of fuel when revving up to around 3000 - 3500 rpm while driving . I have replaced the air pipe between maf and throttle body as it had small cracks but has made no difference . When we bought the car it had a receipt from k/mart auto saying it has had a new fuel pump fitted , so i'm thinking previous owner was having same issue . Sorry for the long winded rant but i'm not sure what to do next . I'm thinking it may be fuel pressure related ?? |

that was replaced along with the fuel pump .
Another thing , if I remove both fuel lines from the fuel rail after the car has sat for a while there is no pressure in there , is that normal ?. |

its normal if the fuel pump is busted/old.
pervious owner may have got a faulty pump put in, but never sorted out the issue before selling. |

Pump is supposed to be new , fitted less than 10 months ago .
Could it be the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail ?? |

I thought I would give you guys an update because I have seen this issue all over the net but no one ever posted an outcome .
In the last week I have replaced the timing belt and crank sensor , no effect . Also removed and replaced intake manifold as I thought it may have had a vacuum leak , no effect . Cleaned throttle body and egr , no effect . Removed and cleaned the MAF sensor , BINGO !!! Car now has HEAPS more grunt . Before it would struggle to reach 3500 rpm , now it will easily redline . I had ordered a new MAF sensor before I cleaned this one , so I will fit it when it arrives , but i'm extremely happy with the way the car now runs . Hope this info may help someone in the future . |

Does it have a k&n air filter in it? If it does, it may be over oiled.

this is a common problem on this car
the MAFs on them are just crap... Mazda even extended the warranty on that part here in the US the only true fix is to replace them with a redesigned one... if you want to find 2nd hand, go look for one from a newer mazda, such as a 3, 5, 6, or rx-8... but not a MPS model though!
