How much coolant are people using?

Hi all.

I noticed when I got my sp20 that it used a small amount of coolant.

Around this time last year I had the whole cooling system inspected by mazda and the thermostat and radiator cap replaced.

It's coming up to a year almost and I have almost gone from the full mark to the empty mark on the over flow.

Normal?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Are you checking it when hot or cold? Car will drag in coolant from reservoir when hot & then dump it back when cold again.

It is normal however for coolant level to go down due to water evaporation occurring. Actually designed to add distilled water @ intervals

1 year is a bit of time & you should be checking your levels more frequently, esp in the warmer months in Perth.

More important is to ensure you keep the system vacuum tight. That's how there designed to work. Should check now & then @ least for air in the system. May have to bleed it out. Some cars have a bleed screw, like a tapped in fitting.

Have you checked your hose clamps are tight also? If your worried, take it to a rad shop & get them to have a look.

I'd say it's perfectly normal if there's no air in the line. My first astina never used a drop since new.
