Hi guys - I recently bought a 94 model Astina with the 2L V6 engine. *It sounds oh-so sweet...

BUT, it seems to lack a bit in the low-end stakes.

What can I do?!!

Does anyone know if there is a company that supplies extractors for this engine?

Cooldragon - I've been reading about your remus exhaust - did you get a noticeable hp gain from it?

Thanks...[/colorost_uid0]

hey mugwump

it won me about a hp or 5 or so. It's more the sound that will improve, although the throttle and gaspedal push response will be a lil better.

you will get more torque if you place a sportfilter and even better in combination with a custom made cool air intake. for instance with my monsterflow filter(check www.jeroentje.nl or www.monsterflow.com)

you will get two kicks in the back when you pass 4000 and then again when you pass 5000 rpm. toruque will improve some from 2000 to 2500 rpm(with the standard filter and muffler you will have zilch torque at those rates) i now have about 172 hp, instead of the 155 i had in my standard car(measured on computer)and do the 0-100 in approx 7,9 instead of the 8,3 standard

but there is a limit that air flow improvements can do..

really want torque, add a twin turbo(www.knightturbo.com) or switch your 2.0 for a 2.5 V6

also some iridium plugs(denso, ngk or HKS) and twin leads will add some power, also lighter flywheel and.ho do you call that thing in english....the 6 pipe thing that come together in your exhaust system...... ???

oh yeah...custom made manifold[/colorost_uid0]

The german had 2 hp less than the dutch.... german had 106kW

and the dutch(mine) had factory spec 108 kW= 147 Hp, but was measured 155 hp on the rollerbank before any mods...mazda always says less than they actually perform..just like mitsu and nissan say that the evo6 and 7 and the skyline only do 280 hp...no WAY

header??hmm in HK they call it the Manifold....

so did you race your girlfriend in her civic yet ?[/colorost_uid0]

thanks for the advice guys. cooldragon - your car looks fantastic.

i have no idea how much power my car has got, cos its actually an import from Japan. these JDM vehicles always seem to be a little different in spec. also, the interior is different... Oz spec has twin airbags, cruise control and ABS. mine has none of them, but mine has those retractable side mirrors.

plus, there's something in the boot that appears to be a rear strut brace. type-r? i wonder... guys - is the redline of the V6 6000rpm or just over 7000rpm?

redline is just over the 7000rpm, but is limited to around the 7400rpm... no rear strut bracwe on mine either but it isnt the zxi or the glx...it the gt, apparently theres a difference between them but no one can tell me what???? i do believe though, that the glx and the zxi were the same.... perhaps not???[/colorost_uid0]

In holland they also had both the GT and GLX versions. The rumour was that the GT had little more torque and HP but it was never confirmed by importer. The confirmed difference was the price(GT was 20% more expensive than the GLX in Holland), the GT had special version GT 16 inch alloys with 205-50-16 tires, the glx had 195-60-15 tires. the GT had sideskirts, rear spoiler, front GT apron, front fog lights, sprayed side mirrors and ABS, the glx had none of them, also the interior was different, GT had sports interior and the glx had the same interior as the 1.8 and 1.5 versions. My version also has aircon, dual airbag and my previous GT also feautured cruise control but those were optional. Both the glx and zxi have a strut brace under the hood but not standard in the trunk....thanx for the compliment by the way!

the red line is indeed 7000 rpm, but making more than 6750 rpm would only slow down your acceleration because the line shows a sudden decrease in hp over 6750 rpm. if you clutch let your rpm swing between 4500 and 6500 rpm with the best performance in a standard V6

the zxi was never introduced in holland , because the leather interior would make the car more expensive than a BMW 320i at that time. with the price then already matching a VW golf VR6 or a BMW 320i, holland only sold 11 GT's in the whole BA-career...not so many eyh??[/colorost_uid0]

well thanks for that, by far the most comprehensive breakdown of the various models to date...cheers bud, its all appreciated... but heres one for u... my Gt doesnt have color coded wing mirrors , yet they are polished black plastic as opposed to the ones that were on my 1.5.... also, the interior is not all sported up, dunno, maybe the specs were a bit different in Ireland... how do i find out how many of the cars were sold in a country ??? it'd just be interesting to know, anyways thanks again... cahal[/colorost_uid0]

??? hey, cooldragon,
u said that he should put in a 2.5 litre. u sure u can fit that in? i mean, it's allready pretty crowded with the 2 litre, let alone 2.5. has it taken out air conditioning, or decreased the fuel tank capacity or somethin glike that, cuz i don't see how it can fit otherwise.[/colorost_uid7]

The beautiful thing about the 2.5L is that it's externally identical to the 2.0L. Heck, it is externally identical to the 1.8L that is now in my garage. 2.5L, 10:1 compression, 200bhp of fun in a 2400# package, and ~170ft/lbs of torque to go with it. Then of course there is the turbo option...
