Anything is possible, it just takes$$$$. The general rule is, if it didn't come with turbo, don't fit it. Turbo engines have stronger con-rods, pistons etc and fitting turbo to an NA engine places extra forces/pressures on parts that weren't designed for it. The others will correct me if I'm wrong. The reason they have 1.8 is there was a 1.8 turbo engine for the BP, and they fit and modify that one.[/colorost_uid0]

Would you be able to Supercharge the 1.8 instead of putting in a turbo??[/colorost_uid0]

Hey there,
Monetry wise using the GTX 1.8 turbo is a better option that
turboing a 1.5 or adding a supercharger to the 1.8. *I looked
at the blower and its a idea I keep kicking around to use a
2L Toyota mounted where the aircon goes. *Case of making
brackets and changing the pipework. *Price of the blower
is $400 whereas the complete turbo motor I got for $835
so you know which way I went. *Remember the GTX motor
is already setup for boost. Still think about it cause
now for me I could add the blower and simply have a small
adjustment to the pipes from the turbo to run it. *I could
do it for less than a grand just to see how it goes.

Regards

With a supercharger, can you just add it to the factory 1.8 or would adding it to a GTX engine be a better option?? After all it's really only pumping in more air, isn't it?? [I'm not too sure about all this techno-wizardry!!]

I like the mind warp of comparing higher compression which
gives bigger bang against forcing more air/fuel to give a
bigger bang. * If detonation occurs at x pressure you can add
more air/fuel in a lower compression motor before you reach
that same point so will get a bigger bang than N/A with less
air/fuel at the same pressure. Does that help ::
Forced induction either turbo or blower has the problem of
heat as when ever you compress something heat is a by
product. *Turbo is worse because you also have heat
absorbsion from contact with the exhaust gasses by the
turbo. *Heat increases the occurance of detonation.
Therefor a mixture of high compression of a N/A motor
and no I/C means that you can only run low boost to avoid
detonation. *What point ping would happen on a BP N/A motor
with a blower not too sure.
Why have I come out with all this dribble ?? Just that there is
a lot more than just bolting on a blower to worry about if
you want to add it to a BP N/A motor.

Regards
