BJII Stereo install.....Grrrr

Well.. after a few weeks of trolling the forums and talking to a work colege (who has a BJ with single din), I decided to install my new headunit.... I had a double din factory cd player. So I made the tools for the removal like other threads have said and off I went.... Inserted the tools and after nearly 2 hrs of pushing and pulling and back and forth from the forums to the car making sure I was reading it right... still didnt have the HU out...

So I found a way to get it out without any tools..
1. Remove the golvebox
2. while pushing the darker retaining clips in toward the HU (from the back side of the dach) slightly pull one side of the HU out.. repeat for the steering wheel side... takes like 5 mins..

Then once I had that out I was like OH S#!T... there is no mounting points for the new HU... all the mounting is from the retaining clips....

After another hour of drilling out hole in the mounting clips and making sure it all lined up... All is OK.. HU in and all I have to do this morning it finish off the amp wiring and done.

Oh thats another thing I found.. while running the amp power wire from the battery.. I decided to check out the engine mount as a work mate just had to replace his.. the top one on the driver side is completely ripped.. I assume another couple of hundred down the drain..

Anyone else have similar woes with removing theirs??

I just used to shove a big flat blade screwdriver down each side and the HU would come straight out. The "Ford tool" [bent coathanger] never worked for me, hey...

I'd be surprised if the drivers side mount is torn. It does have spaces in it, it's not solid rubber. Usually it's the front and rear mounts that go.

Pulling out the HU can be a pain because you dont know quite how to use the tool. Once you do it the first time the second time you can do it in about 10 seconds.

Oh and there are single din and double din mounting kits for the BJ, makes it a little neater as now I'd guess you have a gap around the outside edge of your HU.

The ford tool (actual tool) costs 20 from autobahn and is made of tooling steel which means it won't bend like the coathanger will and is the right dimensions. Screwdriver works as well, either a big flat one like Gav said or a long skinni Philips one that fits in the hole
After you remove the whole unit you can use the mounting sleeve that comes with the hu and after placing it in bend the tabs that are on the sleeve so that they press against the facia and don't allow te sleeve to move
That's the easy way anyway

I guess you didn't come across this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQT_YBBpN4E

I just copied him and got it after 1 min

Takes me half an hour to take my current unit out now, made custom mounts that you have to disassemble while the headunit is in place if someone tries to steal it and they can get it out I'll let them keep it

Oh, you must get the water leak under/behind the clutch pedal when it rains.

This is a pic of the drivers mount

This is the front one that is sagging

So I am looking at getting a set of these for my 1.8 as well as the other 2 OEM mounts
http://store.awrracing.com/products/...252d2003.html#

Thoughts?? Actually.. a little surprised that they weren't picked up during the safety certificate ...

My experience with the inserts is that of my teeth chattering loose. I'm not sure how it would be with the full AWR mount kit.
