Slotted rotors.

Say I changed up to slotted rotors how many Ks less should I expect form my Brake pads?

Heard they can be very mean to ones pads, question is how mean.

So under 500 for some greatly imporved braking tis good,
if replacing brake pads continually hmm not so good.

don't expect to stop any quicker on slotted... but do expect to be able to keep stopping :P As twilight said.. imo slottled are worth the $20 loss in pad life... they do an excellent job of expelling hot gasses from pads (especially lucas pads)... cross drilled are for street racers who like how the light shines off them... don't ever bother...

more importantly focus on your fluid and pads... i reccomend Motul RBF600 fluid (it makes dot5.1 look ordinary  ), and without a doubt, the biggest reccomendation i can give you is lucas pads... unless your prepared to spend upwards of $800 on endless or ebc, then lucas is the way to go.... they sh!t all over bendix ultimate (100vs150 degrees; 650vs550degrees), ie, they work from colder and perform till hotter, and the best part... you will not find a cheaper set of pads! For my car $70 for front, $60 for rear..

With only ventilated front and solid rears, running standard daihatsu garbage, even down the back side of glorious, i can only JUST get my pads to start to fade, and they also give miles of warning, unlike some pads that just let go... warning, they do dust up very bad.. but aren't harsh on rotors...

The only other pad that comes close for the money is Bendix Metal King... very loud, very harsh on rotors, good feel though...

oh, one more thing, just a tip, if your looking at DBA rotors, don't bother... find a dealer of RDA rotors! They're the same rotor made in the same factory but for half the price!

For QLD i reccomend Cruisin' Auto Spares in nambour...

yeah dont go cheap on brake fluid.

i have caltex rbf600 which is the same as motul, but $1 cheaper (woopdy-do...that's just what the brake place had). a bottle is $23 or something and normal dot 4 is $10 or something. not much different for much better fluid.

Yes.. once you do some good braking [i have the long life slotted and Bendix Ulitmate] and you start to get a bit of heat into them they really really bite good.. I have no complaints at all..

Ha are brake pads $20 doh, I thought they where some what expensive guess I have only seen prices of top shelf items.

So Slotted rotors offer no increase in stopping till ordinary rotors would of over heated I am not harsh on brakes (cause I have been compression braking) so yeah might give them a pass over, looks are good but didn’t want the look at this stage anyway, hoping for a sleeper till she does less street time.

So basically shoes and fluid are what I should look for now, till I get some brake fade (no real engine mods thus far or for a while I just like to stop if I want)

Bourne Boy those prices
Is that price per wheel ie 2*70 + 2*60 or per axle 70+60? What do they last like compared to $20 pads. Is it worth swapping over (due pretty soon anyway) for the average driver or is the difference only really at the limits of the pads so if driving fairly normally wouldn’t be worth it?

Fluid look for
Motul RBF600
Caltex RBF600

Pads look for
Lucas
Bendix Ulitmate

Just a thought
IMHO wouldn’t the more expensive pads generate more fricton thus generate more heat thus making slotted a very good idea to stop brake fade which will now occur when it would not of before?
Make sense?[/quote]

I have Lucas on ATM and I like'em but they are very dusty pads and you will need to wash your wheels more often.
I think what twiggy was trying to say is if $80 pads only last 75% as long due to the slotted rotors then that $20 difference is worth the better braking.

yep that's what i was trynig to say

expensive brake pads dont always mean better braking. check for the heat ranges they work in. dont get one which starts too high otherwise you'll have no brakes for the first few stops. too low on the high number and you'll have brake fade in no time. something like 80c - 600c is very good

So average pads cost $80ish

So Lucas are on the cheap/average side of things, but good hmm I think they sound the go, how do they last roughly the same is good enough.

I can live with dusty wheels if I get better braking.

and that is the price per wheel =80X4
or is that per axle =80X2
or is that for each pad =80X8

depends on the brand, but $80 is a cheap pad per axle.

for example, EBC green's cost $250 per axle

Yep.. its per axle... $70+$60....

Lucas pads operate 100-650 degrees...

Yes, they're are very dusty, very cheap, and good enough for 3 out of the top 4 places in last years QLD rally championship.... like i said, unless your prepared to spend $800 on endless pads, then lucas are the way to go... even EBC green won't perform at the same sustained level... there's only one spec of lucas pad, so don't go looking for any performance label...

oh, and one more thing... the few times i've been blinded by my brake disc, they smell really funky... not a good funky... a farked funky.. so if your planning to go hard driving turn your vents to re-circ  i didn't loose the smell for a week
