Depends on the insurer. Some charge and some don't when it's not your fault.

I thought it was that they'll make you pay excess at first, but they'll pay you back once they get the money off the other person (or their insurance company).

tbh I'm a little more worried about my local smash repair (they're in holmview for the record) getting back to me on how much the car is going to cost to repair it...

B&M Smash repairs just got back to me...they reckon $8,800 to repair the car. For a car thats worth around the $10,600 mark, does that mean write off?

That sucks! As far as I know with most insurance companies if the damage bill is more than half the value of the car they will write it off. So I'd be surprised if they didnt!

That used to be the case but you may find it has changed
if the repairs are less than the value of the car you may find they will fix it

it's 75% of the cars value. and it the car is worth only $1800 more than the repair. then i do not see them repairing it.

If you really want to keep it, ask them if they'll use secondhand parts where possible. That'll bring down the price

OMG
470 for rear bar...
328 new boot mats...
7hours for interior triming, 8 hours for the tailgate??? at 30p/h WTF...
man get another quote that sounds like a ripoff to me u might get screwed n loose ur car cus of some dumb ditzy 4wd n a dodgy quote cus all the remove n replace items would take 20 hours all together MAX not 54, not even for me n i never touched a BJ b4 properly, n they are "experts" with all neccesary tools at their disposal. i dont wanna start ranting but PLEASE get another quote. no matter how good someone might be at something they are not the best for every single job.
for eg a very good pannel beater in Mt Gravatt told me its ILLEGAL to spray my beaver tail a different colour. after i told him that its not reflective, and proved to him he said its RTA rules to have red surrounding a tail light i pointed out a 350Z n a RX7 sitting in the parking lot. at that point i realised he said RTA n asked him y is he talking bout NSW.. he looked at me like a stuned mullet.
omg i am ranting...
hope it works out good man

Nothing would make me happier than to do just this 70NYD...but I simply can't afford to. I work at southport (live in beenleigh) and I can't get to work. Even as it is (with my coworkers giving me lifts here and there) thats a bit of a stretch because it takes them out of their way, they might call in sick, they work at different sites etc etc...

If I get another quote, thats another week waiting around to see how much the repairbill is, not to mention getting the car to the mechanic in the first place (not exactly drivable at the mo).

What would help this situation is if I could somehow borrow a car off someone (rental cars are about $50/day, and my insurance only covers up to 14 days), but I don't think thats very likely...
