Please Help BA reverse lights
hi guys whooooo first post. iv been reading this site for a while now just getting ideas on what is do-able on the awesome astina
well so far i did not need alot of instruction on how to pull apart what as it has all been minor stuff, but now i decided to put in a reverse camera. so to do it properly the camera feeds of the dvd, which needs a trip wire to know when to put the camera on and switch whatever im watching to rear view mode. but this is where my problem lies. i have absofu*kenlutly no idea what so ever on where i can locate the wire that runs to the reverse lights. the reason why i am putting a camera is that on monday i parked at Kangooroo point cliffs between a 4WD with a tray back and another car and 2 hours later when i came back the 4WD reversed in 2 my car there was a huge scratch on the bonnet bout half way up so i dont think this clown even noticed me there cus he was so high up. F**K i hate 4WD i dont see a point 4 them in the city . i was so pissed of but at least it wasnt bad. made me realise that i would love knowing how much room i have behind me when im going back. so thanks for any help that anyone gives, and i will put up a few when i bought it and atm photos of my car as soon as a few more things go in to place n get sprayed. cheers guys, Tony |

hey mate. couldnt you just wire it up to the reverse gear sensor? not neccesarily to the reverse lights. hopefuly someone else can be more help. i just thought that would make more sense because your going to have a screen up the front i would imagine

you should able to find a fuse in the fuse box for the brake lights, tap into that wire. otherwise run a trigger wire from the tail lights along with the camera wiring.

no worries, we all have mental blanks. there should be a fuse there, if not give us a holler and i'll find you a wire to tap

soooo being the nice guy i am, i found you the wire
i even took photos (dodgy ones i admit, but my phone does the job) there it is. only joking, thats the wire at the light. Thats the plug in the boot from the light, you can get a wire in there if you want, you won't need to cut/tap any wires that way And now the important one... Yep, the wire at the fuse box. i checked it and it should be the same, stick a multi on it to be sure though (or stick and wire and spark it across an earth with the car in reverse, you don't need the engine on, just acc II) If you need me to hunt around the back of the box for a more concealed tapping place let me know. If you need a hand i'm happy to help out, just let me find time around uni and my 2 jobs

it sounds like its going to best easiest to get it right at the light.
I've got the wiring diagrams for the BA with me. It says the +ve from the front of the fusebox ( the plug in the pic above is just below the fuses ) to the lights is the red with yellow stripe wire. Maybe the color is different in the pics above. Its the correct position in that plug tho You should be able to see it when you open the fusebox cover. Put a probe light or multimeter to test it first to be sure. You should it get voltage when the car is put into reverse. |

yeah thats what i did, and it is red with yellow, i had a brain fart when i typed that.
that is the wire, it returned 10.18V (dodgy earth to door stopper thing) when in reverse, nothing in neutral etc. dogo where did you get your diagrams? mine don't have any of that.
