Wiring Issues

Ok, so recently I've started to have "issues" with my stereo. Everything was fine then one day the subs stopped working. Paul and I looked into it and he noticed the fuses were blown, so we replaced, next day those too were dead.

Changed my amp to one I had laying around that I know works thinking that mine may have died BUT this Clarion amp is only 9 months old.

Once all was changed and so on, the subs now cut in and out. I'm thinking wiring issues?

Unusual part about it is that occasionally I'll turn my headlights on and the stereo will turn itself off then back on again.. It has done this 4/5 times!

Went and bought a new Pioneer head unit on the weekend which Paul will install shortly and I'm hoping this fixes the issue as the Kenwood head unit that's in it may be the problem. I hate Kenwood..

I still think wiring problems as the previous owner installed the system and he seemed like a noob

all i can say is re-install the system, wiring and all.
better that way than figuring out what the problem is.
at least you know its done properly, about an hour also to do dis(depending if your good with wiring)

Fresh, I think that's what I'll do as it's rather irritating. Trying to find the problem could end up being to find a needle in a haystack with the amount of **** the previous owner has put under there!

Oh gosh I'm hope that's not my problem Ghoru.. that would suck. Well I was considering installation for the system and then while they are there they might see the problem. But my boyfriend is good with that sort of stuff so I've bribed him instead to check it out for some alcohol lol.

From the sounds of it there is a possibility that you have a wiring issue. I think the head unit issue might be something to do with the illumination wire. Or the dimmer circuit.
If you test the wire it shows as a ground wire.
But with the lights on its 12V+.
It usually blows the fuse when u turn them on though.
I would re ground all connections and re check/ redo all connections.
I have seen speaker wire rub off their insulation and make contact.
So check them for earthing as well with a multimeter.
If you haven't got one go get one from Jaycar or Dick Smiths for less than $20
Use the multimeter to test voltage while the car is off and running. Then put your system under load by turning all electrics and watching the voltage including when you start the car.
It should be about 12V off and drop to about 9v when starting, and be about 13.5-14.5 at idle.

Sounds like the cable(s) have a bit of oxidation/corrosion where they connect between devices. This increases the resistance at these points, as more current is drawn, the voltage drop before it reaches the amp is higher. Cut the ends off your power cables and re-strip and twist them. Before placing them back into the amp terminals/battery connector, see if you can wet them with solder to keep it together and clean.
