Will these fit my car..??

Have been looking at some second hand rims.

Just not sure if they will fit my car. (BA 1.8L Hatch)

15" with 195/50/15 tyres
4x100 +42 offset.

So will they?

Re: Will these fit my car..??

Chimpy,

Standard rims/tyres for an oz spec 1.8 BA (according to my 1998 owners manual and sticker on the drivers door) are:

14x5.5JJ - 185/65R14 86H; or

15x6JJ - 195/55R15 84V

Using 195/50 tyres on a 15 inch rim means your speedo will be 3.4% fast (@100km you'll be doing 96.6km). Most tyre dealers (I've spoken to) seem to recommend +/- 2.5% as the max. Also using them will effect tyre wear as your tyres will rotate more, 534 vs 553 revolutions per km. Also means your engine will rev harder for the same speed.

As for the PCD and Offset they are fine (offset range is ET35-42), another thing to check before purchase is the Centre Bore (hole in the middle) according to my data that should be 54, but I would check yours to be safe.

Hope this helps

Christopher

Thanks for that info.
Is there a tire size that will not effect the speedo as much? Being second hand the rubber is naturally not 100% so there is always the option of new rubber sometime soon.

I assume the 54 for the center bore is in mm? Is it only a problem if the hole is too small...?? (stupid question im sure)

I would recommend using a 55 series tyre to make the speedo more accurate using a 205 tyre. For example 205/55 x 15. Using a 205 tyre will make it slightly too fast. 1.7% to be exact, but it's more accurate than 3.4% using a 195 tyre.

Hey Chimpy,

Tyre size for 15x6 inch rims is 195/55R15 84V, gives you a 0.1% difference from the standard 14 tyre. The link below gives a good description and some advice about wheel/tyres. As for the Centre Bore that's correct it is 54mm, and I assume should be the exact size. Never bought a set of wheels (yet!) but I'm sure someone else will tell you why it should be the exact size and not larger.

Also here is a link to the tyre calculator I used:

Christopher

PS. Rims you were checking out look pretty good, though I would be tempted to look for a set of 17 inch rims (look better IMHO). Tyres would need to be 205/40s.

the centre bore of the astina is smaller than most other fwd cars (Honda integras, Mitsu mirages)

so you'll probably have to have locating rings put inside the mags (as my OZ's had to have)

The rims in question have a center bore of 70.
Are the rings difficult to locate? Or would any good tire shop/wheel shop have them?
