What Speakers For A Sp20
Ok i'll be doing the system soon just need to know what size fits in the front and back doors are they 6inch or 6.5inch?and the orignal deck i'll be taking out but will be left with heaps of room after putting my new pioneer deck in,i was thinking of putting like a small type shelf under the pioneer deck so where the voloume button and tune button is on the orignal deck. When that comes out what's behind it?is there a shelf already or not?and is it a two piece on orignal deck?please help thanks

the front stock speakers are 5x7 and u will have to made a mdf bracket to fit 6.5"
front pocket filler u can buy from mazda..i think thats wot critter did...and it wasnt overly expensive, something like $14. |

ive got 6.5" jaycar splits in my front doors...you NEED the spacer for window clearance and to beef it out so the cone/basket can fits in the existing hole...
i used 9mm mdf, i think 12mm would be the max! if you get splits, the crossover is a whore to mount in the door...i only found one spot it could go without chopping up **** :P |

Those pix tell a good story.
You can certainly make a spacer/adapter to make up to 6.5" dia speakers fit in the front doors, 9mm is about right: behind the door trim grille so there is room for speaker excusion. As above, there is quite good depth in the doors for proper speakers. Any number of choices. have used quite a few speakers, mounting depth up to about 68mm is OK with 9mm spacer. Pockets to go with the single DIN head unit are from your Mazda dealer and not expensive. Sound deadening the doors is WELL worthwhile, heaps more solid "kick". There is also decent room under front seats in our cars for a respectable amp. If you want proper sound, head units from ANY source are ordinary compared to a decent amplifier.

I've actually used 5x7 Alpine splits in the front of mine, tweeters mounted on the dash (almost the only way to get good seperation and clarity). With speakers mounted so low in the door, if you actually want decent sound (read: clarity) you really need to get splits. As Critter said there is plenty of room under the seats for almost any amp you'll be using to power your door speakers. I actually found a good solid mount underneath the centre console for a good clean ground connection.
The biggest pain is cutting the door wire connectors to feed through some decent cabling.

It might just be easier if you tell us the model number of the speakers......
