BG throttle response from idle
Just been fixing those little things that need to be fixed on the BG.
Next on the list is the hesitation when giving a large amount of throttle from idle. When giving more than 40%ish throttle from idle there is a lrge hesitation before the revs raise. And it is not a cable problem as I've replication this from the engine bay bypassing the cable. Anyone got some good ideas? EDIT - If I first raise the revs to say 1300rpm or so, the hesitation is definately not there.

hey! i get the same thing! but i think ive noticed it more after i put my pod/cai in. if its idling and u rev it (or try to rev it) up to say 3000 quickly it sort of hesitates... so when i drag i rev higher to avoid N/A lag lol
not sure how to get rid of it... |

I know what you mean, mine done that for a while.
If i remeber rightly, someone recommended i buy new engine mounts. Never thought it would work, so i jammed some rubber from old exhaust rubbers into my mounts to tighten them up a bit and it was quite effective. Worth a try and if you have some old bits of rubber lying around its free. |

I did think engine movement at first, but that generally comes from cable lag I thought. Anyways when I opened the throttle directly via the linkage there was hardly any movement so I'm thinking it may be something else. Its nothing major, but naturally I'd love to get rid of it if possible.

How would you feel if someone all of a sudden tried to shove a maximum amount of air down your thoat?? I'm sure you would hesitate too.
Every mazda engine I've had experience with does it...they aren't designed to go from idle to max revs instantly.

Every engine has a certain amount of hesitation, yes true. However this hesitation is much more than usual. I wouldn't say every Mazda does it either. My SP20 doesn't have any real hesitation. My old AS TX5 Telstar didn't, and several other mazda's I've driven have never shown this to be true.
I know that it wont build up to 6000 in half a second, but a very small hesitation before building up the revs would be nice. As compared to what we have at the moment which would be close to half a second at least.

I had this problem. My BJ 1.6 used to hestitate like a virgin in a brothel, I believe there is a problem with the 1.6 MAF in that it does not utilise big volumes of air the way it "should".
Is your intake/zorst aftermarket? Because my car was running dangerously lean with I/E/H mods. A malpassi fuel reg cleaned it right up. And i'm talking 14whp worth......hesitations, begone! I can't say this will work with other engines, because it had the bloke at redcliffe dyno that fitted it totally baffled.... Last edited by HI-RES; 17-07-2006 at 06:24 PM. |

I had a similar problem with the 929. I adjusted the throttle position sensor, replaced the dizzy cover, rotor button and fitted a set of Bosch plug leads from super cheap.

Thanks Cosmo, Going to try and check all those on the weekend. It would be nicer if the BG filter came apart easier, as I could get a better guesstimate on the airflow. The interesting thing I found was that if the car is cold and the engine is kept at a higher idle, around 1000-1100, then there is no hesitation. Well not enough hesitation for me to want to fix anyways.

Seems like that hesitation is a problem of all BGs
I used 323f 1.8 sohc for about a year and the problem was present always. This summer i bought 323f GT (1.8 DOHC) and faced the same trouble. Few remarks: problem is very actual for cold engine. When you drive for about 10 minutes hesitation becomes very little or comes out at all (mainingly from 2500 rpm and higher). Still did not find the reason, but found how to decrease this effect. There is a small screw on a choker. It's considered to be an idle revs adjuster. If you unscrew it for 0.5-1.5 turns you'll have an idle about 850-950 revs and the hesitation is gone! |

Ours is a different problem. The hesitation happens hot or cold, and only when openning the throttle a fair bit from under 1000 rpm or so. As long as the revs have risen enough (say 1000-1100 rpm) then there is no hesitation to speak of.

Nothing that I would consider unusual anyways.
