Hey, i found out some info about the laptop adapter ($135.00), it also holds 4 maps too. same a hand controller ($195.00.) so Gav, this would now be a good idea for you as you can still have your maps on the run without the laptop ready. don't ask me how it does it though, i'm not sure, but it does.
Has anyone who is trying to get the price down thought about the LT4 instead of the LT8? It's $300 cheaper and good for N/A cars but will have smaller gains. say Doug sent you and what you want... They are australia's largest suppliers of Haltech's and he sells microtech's etc like lollipops... i would rate him very highly too (Haltech's head engineer for 8 years before he quit) my 2c

Well the Microtech computer (New version LT8s) was Somwhere between $950 and $1000 (i forget) from Mazfix. The hand controller is $195 or something and can be had for $150.
The Microtech Manual comes with Wiring diagrams but its easier just to follow the beginning instructions. All the Microtech Wires have labels on it - eg: Red - Water Temp Wire - Ground.....etc. And the Manual goes WATER Temp - Attach Red wire lablled.........to 12V wire from water temp sender etc. The whole Microtech Loom is in one Conduit tube....about 20 or so wires. Ross (GTXWGN) and me wacked the wiring in in a couple houes....was quick. We removed my whole Staock ECU and ECU loom. In the time we also deloomed my engine bay - eg: Ran the coil and thermo fan wires thru the chassis rails etc. Car started first time and drove - Just very sluggish and rich but it ran fine......I actually drove it a few 100kms like this then I put in Ross's maps (he uses only a 1mm bigger turbo and very common mods). The car actually ran perfect mixtures and went really hard. Drove the car for a week or 2 like this, Thrashing it, racing it etc. and it was sweet just street tuned using Ross' Mazfix tune. Then took it to Matty Sprie. Was $300 for 3 hours at his shop. Adjusted Spark plug gaps and fuel pressure etc and 2 hours + on dyno. He is $150 per hour. Happy with his results and I'm now getting 8 litres per 100km fuel economy on the highway compared to like 13 or more. Hows that for a write up I can scan a page from the manual in to give you an idea an the installation instructions.......it might be on the microtech website though. i've love to have a wireless engine. they look great and nice and easy to work on too!
i thought we had to keep the stock ecu to look after the non-engine poop? |

i can tell you first hand that the LTX8 might not even work...
the 01- BJ's run digital feedback from the alternator to help the ECU know whats going on. I run a haltech and because of this drama it made it very hard to go aftermarket ECU's that is why i run a Haltech RA8 Reluctor Adapter which is a digital to analog converter. This is the reason TDK came to me to get an aftermarket ECU when he went turbo and wanted stand alone. You will have to keep the ECU running to control some of the creature comforts and a few other things... it just stops knowing whats going on engine wise. The Haltech also runs some information back to the standard ECU to stop anything freaking out (ie. the standard ECU still thinks that everything is running as it should with an RPM signal etc) If anyone wants any more info help themselves to a pm to me =) I do have to say that you should really make sure you are getting something that will do the necessary job. I know first hand that once i went aftermarket ECU's and i started knowing what was going i started to stray from the way of bolt-ons, wolfs, microtech's, etc from a lack of tunability from less load points, less fuel and ignition tuning points etc. I wanted something that would get me the best bang for buck from tunability... i'm not baggin any ECU i'm just saying that it is one of those things that sometimes you get what you pay for, and i think that people should do some serious research before purchasing. because especially with NA every kw counts... just my 2c i'm more than happy to answer any questions.

yeah still the $100 ea deposit.
doug - i guess if archie @ mazfix cant make it work we'll get our money back. the reason i want microtech over haltech is that it's cheaper and microtech has a rather good history with mazdas (although mainly rotories). i'm pretty sure te software for microtech is far nicer too. also, some guys in america have the microtech setup and they have them working quite well |

so using the microtec as a full stand alone we loose our acessorys? or does another seprate control all them eg air con and the auto box as i have a auto and other stuff like that??.. or can we just use the mircotec in a piggy back sty??

we wont be using it as a *full* standalone as such. it will run the engine, our stock ecu will run everything else. that's how i'm pretty certain it will be setup.
