dimmer switch question

How does it work for the BA?
i thought i understood after testing with the multimeter and then once i wired it up it didnt dim what i wanted.

basically my problem, i installed my EL Dials to the dimmer switch so they didnt blind me and could be dimmed.
but they seem backwards to the other lights.
i.e. Fully dimmed position: EL dials full brightness, other lights nothing
Fully on position: EL dials nothing, other lights full brightness.
is it simply a matter of switching the wires i have?
i was almost certain of my wiring and then it worked out like this and i was a bit .

i currently have the dimmer at half position so that i can see both the dials and lights at once but im a bit sick of this compromise. has anyone wired into the dimmer before and could tell me exactly which wires of the 4 i need to wire into.
could this also be that the EL dials work differently, i.e. voltage dimming versus current dimming. or something.
