Amp install advice for 323F (astina) BG

Has anyone got any tips for how to get through to the engine bay for amp to be connected. I don't like the idea of drilling a big hole through.

Ordered a load of audio kit so i'm getting ready to install it all.

p.s. has anyone got the funny thing of front door speakers (jbl 3 ways 300w) out powering their 6 x 9's?!? (infinity reference 300w)

There is already a hole through which the main engine harness feeds into the engine bay. Generally you can go through that.

yep either cut a small hole in the rubber, and stretch the rubber when wire put through, or drill and insert a grommet, with fish oil

amplify this!!!

OK Found them...sorry if they take 4ever 2 load! These r pics i took when i was plannin my install! My astina is the standard not SP, engine bay may be different!

1. This is taken from the top right corner of the engine bay. Near the bottom of the firewall there is a oval grommet (in centre of the pic).
To get the grommet out simply push from the inside of the car, where the hole is in the next pic!
I cut slits in my grommet, fed the wire through and then covered it with "KNED-IT" to make it sealed!

2. This is taken from under the dash. The grommet leads to a hole on the inside of the car (centre of the pic again).

Hope dat helps! If it don't good luck!

Yeah, it wouldn't take too much to fix an MDF panel to the back of the back seat, when you have to give the amp back you'll have your wiring and panel in place for your new amp

I Just screwed straight through the metal with the supplied screws. Only needed 3 of them. One corner is loose because there's about 4cm gap from chassis, but it is very secure.

Cleaning the engine bay today. Went ok, cleaned and polished clips etc.. then I just thought i'd tighten a few bolts... ended up snapping a engine head bolt. Yeah it's just about screwed in.. Service is due so i'll ask them to change all 8 bolts.. painful waste of money..

moral of story.... don't mess with too many things!

hehe, or get a torque wrench...

in saying that i'm not really practising what i preach, but oh well....

you'll have to drill the sucker out, and then re-tap a new hole... not fun

yeh i`ve done that as well. these bolts are pretty weak.
theres a good chance you`ll still get a seal with the remaining 7 bolts though.
use some gasket goo around the area of the broken bolt.....worked on mine!!!

LOL! Damn dats gotta suck!

BTW, at the moment i have my sub box held in the boot usin those elastic bag holders (the ones with hooks on both ends) and have it hooked into the rear seat hinges. Works well, only thing was dat i bought 1 dat was 2 long so i had to put a few knots in it!
The amp isn't fastened down at all, it just sits under the passenger seat for easy access and it dosen't move around at all. Its only a cheap 800watt amp, and it needs easy access cause it keeps goin it to protect mode every time you change the CD ( :| ) and i need to turn the amp down to fix the problem! (Why oh why did i buy a cheap amp! )
I hope to do a new system in it again after buildin my new pc and workin on the exterior and engine of my BG!

Thought i'd update you all

JBL Amp and sub is all working perfect. Had no problems at all so far.

Parcel shelf has been built, cut, fitted but i have a problem.

No idea where to get any sort of proper carpet. So i have decided to spray it black and varnish, but being mdf its difficult to get nice finish. Any way any other ideas of what to cover it with or paint stuff?

cheers

hey guys,
dunno about you lot building parcel shelves, i reckon i`m gonna just fix a slab of 12mm mdf to the underside of the original shelf. plenty strong enough for 6x9"s. plus i won`t have the prob of trying to find a matching carpet. will keep posted on progress.
