So about a month ago now I bought a MPS 6 Rear brake set up, I knew I had to get some hand brake cable extended
but didnt want to drive arround with no hand brake for a while so I found someone who was parting SP20's out on ebay.
With handbrake cables in hand I sent them away to get them extended by 210mm. I knew the Normal Mazda 6 280mm
rear brake set up had to have cables extended by about 180mm, so I knew with these MPS 6 ones being bigger,
I had to extend the cables some more, I took a stab and went with 210mm. This turned out to be spot on.

They are a direct bolt on brake set up, I had to Put the Right one on the Left and the Left one on the Right
so that the brake nipples were sticking up and that I could bleed the brake calipers correctly and not have
any air trapped in the system.

MPS 6 314mm Rear Rotor. Just a smidge smaller than my 320mm Front rotors haha.

Green had to go!!!

Ahhh thats better

Little bit of a difference over the stock SP20 Rear Brake rotor's

A Problem I noticed when putting the new cables on... all the brackets were on the wrong way and on the wrong side...
Luckily this was rectified and put on the right way.

PAINT ALL THE THINGS RED!!

Oh and also this was done on the weekend

Galaxy Note 8.0 with my New/old head unit from previous car. No more stock head unit... Finally kicked to the kerb haha

Nice work Hammo

Some questions i have about the era brake set up tho:

1: i see the discs are larger yes but is the pad surface area the same size as the original sp20 pads

And if the pads surface area is the same as the sp20 then what's the benifate of this upgrade?? All ur really doing is increasing ur dics size for no reason..

Yes the disc's are larger and the pad surface is similar but I cant stand having the front brakes bigger and the rear brakes so small,
looked out of proportion. Kind of like having a 50c coin next to a 5c coin.... That's what it looked like and really bugged me..

This rear set up doesn't even look like much of a size increase with the wheel on.. maybe because the RX7 calipers on the front
actually fill up the inside wheel abit unlike the rear MPS 6 ones. Is it really worth spending all that money on?.. probably not.. do I care?.. no.
My car, can do what I want to it.. Like what else do I have to spend money on haha

larger diameter rotor with same size pads = more control and better cooling.

it's not control.

I understand why he did it. There is NO need on a street car but. I look at my wagon 260- 252 F-R even on 17's small but even. Mx-6 300+ to 254 F-R and it's like Plate one end and does it have drums ?
I know on the Lex it's 300 front and 310 rear I think it's but you can't tell. but the rear caliper is twin opposed V front Twin side. I look at it and it's like on the back you see the caliper same on some euro's Saab's etc.

but regarding the Disc pad - pad surface is not the main gain it's rotational force V heat sink.

I remember on a Time attack car owner did everything but rear brakes it took 3 laps cause an issue - but once the car was more balanced with suspension. Rear brake upgrade - PEDAL BOX.
All of the above is similar to people changing a Master cylinder on a late model car where the proportion is electronic in the ABS - it's kind of point less. Unless there is a real need.

But Hammo IF meme serves it's because you high lighted the Mazda on the caliper if they were S6/S8 FD with larger Mazda logo it might not look like it's so massive.

Nice work chap. It'd be fun tweaking that rear end for a snappy nose in.

So I went to work today.. Yeah I know what you are thinking... Who goes to work on a Saturday?... There was a reason..

I had to use the workshop Press to do the Front Lower Control Arm Bushes and Ball Joints. Since I don't have a Press at home.

Anyway reason for replacing these bushes was because the old ones were pretty much rooted.
The ball joints were pretty stiff to move and id hear a solid clunk from them every now and again.
The bushes had excessive play and were pretty torn up. So out with the old and in with the new

There was a small hiccup when doing these.. I had forgotten my lock nut for my wheels ... But was able to get the
Lower control arms off without taking the wheel's off. Winning!! Wish I could do that with a Merc haha

The steering feels much better with these new bushes in and no more clunk from the ball joints,
Have yet to take it in some corners but normal driving noticed a big difference

So I got some new fat sticky rubber today, Federal 595 RS-R's 235 40 17's, raised the front a little bit to accommodate
the wideness of the tyre and run less camber. Yesterday arvo after work got stuck into raising the front and adjusting
the preload on the spring. Noticed something wasnt quite right with the needle roller bearing on the RHF strut.

Disassembled both front struts, removed the needle roller bearings and reassembled the front struts, making all the
preload and distance between locking collars the same for my new front height.

NEW Problem! While raising my front about half an inch found out my front end links would no longer fit as they were
too long So while the car was getting new tyres and wheel alignment I got some new ones where I could cut them
to length and whack them in when I got home. Pro while no front swaybar attached, handling felt a little better,
Con while front swaybar not attached, loud noises while going over bumps haha

Mat. I read this question and wanted to slap you.

Even if the rear pads aren't any bigger, it still gives it a brake up grade and the pads clamp on a lager ratio of the disc par revolution.

Say before the with the old discs there 250mm I think. And the new discs are 314mm or what ever they are. Now do that measurement in pie. And work out the rolling diameter of the rotor to pad ratio.

Same thing as goo and get you old pushy. Spin one of the wheels up. And try and stop it spinning by grabbing it right down near the axel then do it again but at the tyre. 10x easier isn't it same thing your breaks are trying to do.

I will explain a lot more on this next week when I come up

Its been a while...

Anyway, since last update I have begun collecting parts for when I go turbo, slowly coming along.

But apart from that Ive had a little accident towards the end of May. On the way to work some old (like 80+) driving a
old Merc.. (kind of ironic since I fix the things for a living) decides to merge lanes halfway through a round about and
damaged both my left doors and rear 1/4. I am currently waiting for Insurance to sort the incident out.
Will be giving Insurance a ring shortly to find out if there had been a update so I can take it to my Panel beater.

Couple photos of damage, white marks rubbed off on doors.

Apart from the above I decided to get myself something nice for my 25th.

Recieved them the other day, getting put on on the weekend!
Will be swapping my tyres over. One of them already has the same size on it
so it will give me about 10mm stretch on a 235 40 17.
I have black wheel nuts already and think some black center caps will top it off
later on down the track. They should make my brakes stand out a bit more too

As you can see they got some pussy straight away!

Have a little something special for the front end coming too!!! Stay tuned!!
