1.6 BG SOHC to DOHC

First off I'm not sure if this should be in performance and maintenance forum or here but it's kind of a conversion.
Anyway I have a 1992 carbed 323f and I've got a warped cylinder head, it still runs but it's taking in water in cylinder 3 and 4 and a whole load of steam is coming out the exhaust.
I could get the head skimmed but my mate has a scrapped mx-5 1.6 lying around. From what I've read, the bore and stroke are the same, as is the capacity and the compression ratios are very similar, 9.2: and 9.4:1
What i want to know is, is my block the same as the block from the 1600 mx5? and can i use my existing intake and exhaust manifolds with the DOHC head? I don't want to be messing around with injectors, ecu's and fuel pumps.
I don't want to hear about complete engine swaps either. No can do because of insurance and I've no hoist or the patience for it.
Oh and most important has anyone here done this before?

insurance shouldnt matter if you swap a head from a DOHC or do a full engine swap with a DOHC...

you should just be able to change the engine number on the insurance and rego...as you would need to cause the heads have the engine number on them

Is this only with the BP engines Bourbon? as the MX5 & 323 DOHC engine numbers are on the block, on flat metal just below where heads bolt on.

shanebrk, the blocks I would imagine are the same but you will need manifolds off the DOHC I would think & injector rail & all accs & ECU & poss harness? don't quote me, I'm just warning you

Balls, that means I won't be able to keep my nice and simple carb. I'm not one for all them newfangled injectors and electronics... although I was planning on using motorcycle carbs at some point with a custom manifold, which could get me around that problem, but it also begs the question, is there any FWD exhaust mani that would bolt up to the mx5 head?

i suppose i should just get the sohc head skimmed.....

no.........the coolant lines & vac lines are different position & judging by your nwillingness to do too much tech stuff, forget it. You would need the Fwd head. I sold my ported head off the 323BF due to this very reason. Not compatible with the Miata RWD head.
