EOI: [QLD] AstinaGT Dirt Track Day
Hey all my SEQld buddies, have I got a fun day for you if you're keen. I'm wanting to setup another day or half day at the IWMAC's dirt track out at Willowbank. I've been there for a half day a few years ago and have tried to organise other dirt days but they have been shelved due to weather.
Anyway, it's like the title says, there is a dirt track owned and operated by the Ipswich West Moreton Auto Club that is available for private bookings and is rediculous amounts of fun. FWD, RWD, AWD, no power, 600hp, it doesn't matter, it's always fun as hell. Here is a Gmaps view of the track, as you can see there are 2 tracks within the course and up to 3 cars at a time can be on the track without getting close enough to crash into each other. The time I went I was on track with 2 other cars and its so easy to see them and where they are going you really can't screw up that bad. Official IWMAC Track Hire Page $700 for a half day, $1250 for a full day. I would normally look at about $100 per person, but that will come down if more people want to play. Spectators free obviously and BYO food and drink as there are no BBQs or kiosks. There are toilets provided though. Throw up your questions or suggestions and add your name/car to the list. Friends and other cars welcome if we can't fill up enough slots for the half day. But if there is more than enough interest a full day with heaps of cars is totally do-able too. you've investigated insurance and if said insurer require drivers to have a certain competition license?

I've done this before Ry, you don't need any kind of license apart from your regular drivers one. As for insurance, do you mean personal or venue? Not sure what you mean, but I know regular car insurance wont cover any damage done on a track of any kind.

Erm, OK, now I'm confused. When I tried to hire the track a few years back and got constantly rained out, I had already paid the full amount and was never asked about insurance. I still don't understand how/why I need to arrange insurance though? Can you explain the process for me or something?

Then you have to find an insurer that will covers motorsports type of events, ie CAMS or AASA. Then said insurer will sting you twice by making it a requirement that drivers have some form of a competition license. This is why the skidpans days I organised stopped. Roadcraft required public liability to be sourced outside of them. So $180 for the insurance and $20 per person for day license = alot of added cost. Just check it out to be certain first. If they don't require it, awesome! If they do, I'd hate to find out at the gate. I'd be keen on a half day if it was around $100, and a full day if it was under $150. Hrm, OK I might ring them and get some details regarding insurance. If the insurance is cheap enough I might just foot it myself as part of a birthday present to myself or something.

Just sprend it across the drivers. $180ish across 9 drivers is only $20. $700 (half day) across 9 drivers is only $78. total $98.
Since you are allowed 3 cars on the track at any one time, you'd wanna have the participants in multiples of 3. maybe 9 for a half day and 12/15 for a full day. You normally find they will charge you insure for the day (24hrs). So half or full day won't make a difference to cost. So insurance wont add much if you choose to run a full day if you had 12 drivers. You already have a AASA license, so if you chased up them, you won't be up for the extra $20 for a day license. Just give them a ring. It is total speculation atm, and could be worrying for nothing. Keen no matter the outcome. Last edited by project.r.racing; 15-05-2012 at 02:09 PM. |

I will make some calls tomorrow and get it sorted out. Also with the 3 cars on track rule, it doesn't have to be the same cars. It's more setup so that once someone heads out, next in the line can jump on track once the first driver is clear of the main straight, or other cars can just come and go on the track as they like. At times there 3 cars on track and at other times there was 1 only as people were eating/resting.

open to anything mate. bring a ride-on mower if you really want! it may be called the 'AstinaGT' dirt day, but to get numbers up I can't discriminate. but if it's a mazda you don't have to ask permission.

I'm interested, but with the coilovers in the 3k the track would have to be pretty much pothole free. Got bugger all suspension travel as mat can attest.
Probably should spend the money on a fuel controller though
