engine

When i bought my car i got told it was a 1.6L engine. But now im starting to think that its a 1.8L engine. It would be awesome if anyone knows what it is. P.S. The car came with no log books or other info. Ive put a pic up to help identify it.

Its a late 2001 323 Astina Hatch

That's an FP-DE 1.8L engine.

Get your "VICS" butterflies and screws checked by Mazda. It will cost you a bit now, but save you alot in the future!

thanx for the replies. Why do you say i should check the VICS, is it a common problem with these engines? Oh, and awesome job of identifying the engine. But do you think it could be a FS-DE, cause it looks more similar to my engine (i know its something small but look at spark plug caps). I found some pics and info here:

Well, the VICS butterflies go flying into your engine if you don't get the screws checked and tightened, and that tends to be expensive. It's not a common problem, and might only ever happen to a small percentage of the cars, but you can take the gamble if you like.

The FS-DE is a 2L, and you don't have that. You've only got 2 sensors mounted on the rack ontop of the intake manifold (not 3), and the intake manifold has the superfluous wings on the outer runners. And you don't have the mounts for the plastic engine cover which is on the FS-DE. It's an FP-DE, trust me.

Tony, I'm not entirely certain that you have noticed your faux pas yet. You said tHrust!

Unless you just have strange ways of showing your support.
