Rupewrecht's Astina Hardtop Turbo
Heavily modified i guess, but still always working on things on it.
Full Spec/mod list here: http://www.astinagt.com/forums/vbpic...hp?do=view&g=2 Roughly how it looks atm. http://rupewrecht.com/astina/wheels/...oncartest1.jpg |
Latest thing has been the radiator. the stock one popped a while back, so i bit the bullet and decided to have an aluminum one built.
Built by Race Radiators in Dandenong. 27mm stock vs 40mm new. Same cores as they use for Skyline GTRs, so it'll be fine for mine. It's a bit of future-proofing for when i eventually get a bigger turbo. Power = heat, after all. http://rupewrecht.com/astina/engine/...inium_rad1.jpg http://rupewrecht.com/astina/engine/...inium_rad2.jpg Also working to fit the Mazdaspeed MX5 airbox i bought a while back, as the ARC V6 Lantis airbox doesn't have a chance in hell of fitting in the space available. |
just cant wait to see this in 1 colour :p hurry up and finish it
|
Hah yeah i know. It'll look quite different with the bodykit on it, too.
|
Nice !!!!
How Much was it all up ??? |

Was thinking about posting pics of the kit up as i don't think i've posted any here...but they're all old ones. |

Well, bodykit pics of stuff i've been working on for years....just a few teasers http://rupewrecht.com/astina/bodykit...dkit_front.jpg http://rupewrecht.com/astina/bodykit...vedbeaver2.jpg http://rupewrecht.com/astina/bodykit..._bumperlip.jpg http://rupewrecht.com/astina/bodykit...a_RSwing_1.jpg |
Kit looks nice, what isnt finished?
|
Front lip, rear spoiler, numberplate recess in the rear bumper cutout. Oh, and the bonnet that i've hacked a hole in!
|
You know you want to "decorate" the bottom of your front lip like mine ;)
|
Haha nah it's ABS plastic, not fibreglass! :p
|
Got the radiator in. Getting the lower (braided) hole on was a bitch though! Need to dig up a small hole clamp for the radiator overflow bottle rubber line from the top near the radiator cap, as the pipe off there is slightly smaller than the stock one and the hole isn't sealing properly. Otherwise working fine!
Most of the effort was involved in replacing that old temporary airbox i had with something better. I ended up using the Mazdaspeed MX5 one i bought a while back, as it actually had a chance of fitting compared to the ARC V6 Lantis one. The standard cover didn't really work in the space i had, so i fashioned up a scoop that directs air into it pretty well, that sucks from just in front of the gearbox. It faces the gearbox, not the front of car - so the ram air effect is negligible, but the amount of crap getting in will be minimal as well. http://rupewrecht.com/astina/engine/msmx5_airbox.jpg Best of all is that the MS Airbox bolts the BP sensor nicely to it, freeing up a bit more space. |
sharpen that up a bit and you can decapitate any roadkill you drive over
does that box sit in sortof the same place the NA one does ( in front of the battery ) or behind the headlight. What do you have as turbo > AFM pipe ? |
Nah, it sits under my cooler > intake piping, literally in front of the gearbox, and only a few cm above the plastic undertray.
I've just got some nasty little curved pipe from turbo > BA MAF |
Picked up yet another bit to add to the every-growing pile - for when i mesh my grille.
http://rupewrecht.com/astina/misc/ms_grille_badge.jpg Metal, not plastic. One of the pins on the back was bent almost flat but a little warmth and careful bending has straightened it up nicely. |
fanboy :p

Im quite happy to help Rup get this Painted
Rupes car looks mad cant wait
Rupes can you paint cos Id love to put the colour on your Machine check this out:- Another car I was involved in quite a bit http://www.autowreck.com.au/e107_fil..._madnes01_.jpg |
Decided i wanted more power, so i put back on my 3" muffler that i have had since i got the turbo conversion done. Always planned to put it back on, but intended to get the exhaust control valve welded in and the Mazdaspeed exhaust tip put onto the 3" muffler as well...but, eh, priorities! Easily freed up another 5-10kw atw. And at least i have a decent (oval) exhaust tip again.
Comparo for size: 2" vs 3" http://rupewrecht.com/astina/engine/...ch_muffler.jpg |
Oh where is that milo-tin-label-on-the-exhaust JPG that I made ...
|
It's oval, more like a hip flask. Maybe a JD label :D
|
|
Something to go on my keys to match the car ;)

After about 2 weeks of my passenger side headlight being blown (and driving around with my highbeams on instead), i finally got a chance to pull out the H7 bulb and replace them with some Phillps Power2Night +50 bulbs. Apparently they give a 10-20m longer beam, but that reamins to be seen.
Sometime soon i need to replace my radiator hoses, as i seem to be slowly losing coolant. I think i wrecked the braided lower hose when i was replacing the radiator. Doh! And the top one is an Astra one after Pete stole my original one years ago - so i'd like to replace that too. |

actually is there a place that makes ms-02s rims 4 1/10 rc cars. that would be awesome with my fd shell :D |
Some new toys:
MS silicone spake plug leads, MS seat belt protectors, and a MS CF-look gearknob. Not sure about the gearknob though - will probably end up for sale http://rupewrecht.com/astina/misc/msleads_belts.jpg And some new front shocks. I took a gamble a while back when some Mazdaspeed DW Demio shocks from the N1 Race Series came up on the auctions, and got these. They're virtually new, and the mounting spacing is almost identical, but i might need a sleeve around the bolt as the holes are a bit bigger. But the most important thing is the height - they're about 2 inches shorter than Cosmos new KYB NewSRs - which means i'll have some more travel back at the front. They're 4 step adjustable, too. http://rupewrecht.com/astina/misc/ms_demioshock.jpg http://rupewrecht.com/astina/misc/ms...ckadjuster.jpg Oh, and a brand new MS strut brace. :D http://rupewrecht.com/astina/misc/msbrace_new.jpg Shaved cam cover is progressing too. http://rupewrecht.com/astina/engine/...ver_shaved.jpg |
this is a mean car love the headlights!
|
coming along well dan! hope im down there before christmas too see this thing in person again!
|
cam cover is sweet.
Get MAZDASPEED deep etched into it. |

Had it serviced yesterday, as there was a coolant leak at the back of the block where the oil filter/oil cooler goes that i couldn't get to. I figure it's this that's been causing it to run hot (and occasionally use a bit of coolant), as there's been no pressure in the system.
So: - Spark plugs - Mazdaspeed spark plug leads - Oil filter - Penrite HPR15 - New radiator hoses - GMH Coolant - Thermostat - Front rotors machined Some of that stuff like the thermostat and radiator hoses was a bit more preventative than absolutely necessary, but worth it for the peace of mind. So all ready for the track day in a few weeks now. And just ticked over 190000kms, too! |
track day ?

Lazy update:
Did the track day, got a flat tyre, haven't driven it in 3 weeks as the sight of the spare pisses me off. Dragged it out for a JDMST cruise on saturday night though - a few pics below. http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/s...927eom_009.jpg http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/8914/dsc0270x.jpg Going to start pulling at apart soon for a few things |
