Mazda Eunos K8 Engine Mods

hey all im about to buy a mazda eunos 30x with the k8 motor in it.

has anyone ever turboed one of these motors? is there a kit built for them? or wat would be some decent power mods for them/wat turbo motor would be suitable for one.

sorry if there is threads like this already but ill keep searching.

thnx for ur help

there's a lot of them on cardomain.com, some may give u ideas if u havent looked there?

has been done but is rather difficult cos of the really really small space, there are no kits avalible, there is for the MX6 and ford probe(both use the same engine but 2.5L) but wont fit any other car, i say you best option would be to put a a KL-ZE(its a 2.5L v6 out of the jap spec mx6 with 200hp at the fly) this engine is a fairly strait forward swap, for every thing you wanted to know about the 30x(mx-3 in the states) go to this web site

hmmm thnx guys well i sorta realised the bay was kinda small lol

thought if u move the battery to the boot would that help at all??

i thought the original 1.8l v6 dohc 24valve motor was a perfect motor to turbo. am i wrong?

no it's good to turbo but the Kf is bigger and better overall results using the 2.0L and it's hardly bigger.

but the eaisest to get is the Kl2.5 Ze import. at 200HP you can get that by turboing the K8 but the expense and work involed you may end up quicker but you will more likely end up paying for it with blown boxes. as you are using a g-series box with different bell housing.

at least with 2.5L N/A Ze stress is not as much, you get more pwoer better driveability and the car can take it.

K8 turbo the under bonnet temps and other parts will all need massive sheilding and more heat transfer upgrades.

There is a turbo kit for the KL which will bolt to the K8 but I fear there isn't the room under bonnet
http://www.probeaddiction.com/turbokit.htm
There is also a clutched supercharger kit designed for the KL in the US but it seems he has halted production atm http://www.mrspeed.biz/SuperchargerKits.aspx
But if you do plan to boost I highly dont recommend the KL-ZE as it has mre NA power but a weaker valvetrain and 10.0:1 compression
Just for interests sake I am getting the complete replacement valvetrain from Ferrea and its setting me back just shy of $3k
If you do choose the Eunos 30x or mx3 in US there is a guy on probealk forums aka babybluemx3 who has a boosted 30x, It may pay to drop him a line

fcukthedj 16-05-2006 08:45 PM

so basically ur saying, if i wanted to turbo it, lets say buy the turbo kit, lower compression and make sure the valvetrain system would be able to handle it?

boostedbatman 17-05-2006 02:24 AM

You will have less valvetrain dramas with the KF or K8 engines as they dont have the larger Intake valves and HLAs. Its mainly the KL-ZE that has these dramas. But to be honest I wouldn't boost any ZE, the Australian delivered engines will be fine at low boost eg up to 6lb but I still cant guarantee reliability though. You then have ECU to think of

rodhog 17-05-2006 08:00 AM

if you boost a Kl-03 the local 2.5L

the engine will take the bosot but only as good as it is tuned. ECU is very important.

alot of probe/Mx-6 guys have S/C /turbocharged the Kl-03 used ZE intake etc. others have done ground up rebuild.
So putting FI on a K8 or KF is not hard. you just cna't wind the boost Up to stuipd levels if you do things sensible and well planed it can work out, really well

boostedbatman 17-05-2006 05:04 PM

Correct
Not hard but awkward
Can get pricey
Keep boost low and you will be fine as not only are the pistons not suited to mid-high boost the rods are a bit weak as well

well im not just gona throw on a turbo and wish for the best ill be sending it to my good mate @ micks motorsports who will inform me exactly wat it would need to run perfect.

i just wish these cars were rwd :(

do these things actually make a difference on the car? are they worth it?

boostedbatman 18-05-2006 02:44 AM

They lower the rotating mass which is noticeable on throttle and mainly in first gear
Will really do nothing to your whp figure but make for a much more responsive accellerator pedal. Mainly successful on NA engines, if I was turbo'd I would not bother
Add to that they should always be balance tested before install as the supplied crank sensor plates may be a bit off and you dont want to add vibration to your engine
I have one for my engine which is yet to be installed as the engine is in peices awaiting further goodies
Just for the record that pulley is for the 4cyl variant and not the v6

cheers m8 :)
